But but…Cafe Roma is Italian

Café Roma is good food. The restaurant is tiny, it can get noisy, there’s no outside seating and if you order pizza you have to eat at the bar or get it to go. But it is good food. They put so much food on a plate that I challenge anyone to belong to the Clean Plate Club at Café Roma, and I personally think they make some of the best pizza I’ve had anywhere (it’s the sauce I think.)

Granted, the closest I’ve been to Italy is Dean and Deluca, but last I checked, pizza and pasta was Italian.

So a recent Tradewinds article puzzled me. It is about a new restaurant opening above the new Infusions martini lounge in Cruz Bay and the article says it will fill a void because “the island is lacking when it comes to … authentic Italian cuisine.

It sounds like the new place, called Da Livios, will be a great addition to Cruz Bay dining, but I wonder how Café Roma feels about not being considered Italian. Maybe it should have said the new restaurant will serve Italian cuisine cooked by authentic Italians, because that seems more like what the story is about.

That guy is 21??? Is that what I read? Oh they grow them older in Italy! Any place bringing good wine in to town is ok by me.

No Italian food? Cafe Roma is wonderful. I make Penne Roma at home just to take me back to the great food I remember while working there. Just one more restaurant, exactly what STJ needs.

Isn’t Zozo’s Italian also? It was when it was across from the softball field.

What about Panini Beach? They serve regional Italian food. How is the island currently lacking?
    This article is definitely puzzling….
I wonder also how many more new restaurants we really need. Anyone who has done their research should be aware that many people are travelling with large groups and with families and many people are eating at home. A lot. If you read the forums and see how much discussion there is about bringing food, you can see this trend. If you have examined the contents of the Bongo Bongo refrigerator after guests leave, this would be yet another clue.
Few people eat out every night of their vacation anymore and the pie keeeps getting sliced thinner and thinner.
We love Cafe Roma. Thanks for mentioning them!
