Itty bitty iguana

He’s a baby and he’s probably on his own. Green Iguanas lay their eggs and then abandon them. He’s also a ways from drinking age. Iguanas take 2 years to reach maturity. They also live 20 years or so, and can grow as big as 4 to 6 feet. Half of which is their tail. And the older they are, the darker they get. If you see a gray one, he’s really old. SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW: You can pull an iguana’s tail off. (This is not a suggestion to try it, because he may just turn around and bite, and they do have sharp teeth.) The tail breaks off if it’s attacked and needs it to flee. And it grows back. They can also survive a 40 foot fall, so don’t worry when you see a big one topple out of a tree. Iguanas are fascinating to watch, but it’s really best not to tease them. They’ll leave you alone if you do the same. They’d much rather munch away on plants and bask in the sun. Read more about Green Iguanas at National Geographic here! And in case you missed it posted on some of the forums, read this weird iguana story.

This reminds of when i was living on STT back in the mid 80′s. i was between apartments and was staying at a place named The Twins Restaurant. the place had a bar in front, a courtyard dining area with rooms on the second floor. the courtyard had a large tree in it’s center with a very old and large iguana living in it. our favorite past time was sitting on the balcony above the courtyard, with cool drink in hand, waiting for old iggy to dump his load on the unexpecting diners below.

This totally reminds me of college when I dated a guy that had an iguana and he asked me to watch it while he was out of town. When he got back into town, we broke up before he was able to pick up the lizard- Charlie- (the iguana, not the guy). He was too chicken to call or come get him so I kept Charlie for a while and ended up sending him to a better home, far off in the tropics of Lubbock, Texas. Ahh, memories.
