The Virgin Sky-lands

We think more villa owners should invest in a telescope. We know, we know. Most people won’t use it. Somebody will inevitably break it, or the elements will eventually ruin it. But you can get a good telescope for a couple hundred dollars and it’s big bang for the buck. St. John is amazing sky-gazing territory. Look at the moon and you feel like Neil Armstrong. (Took that picture by just putting a digital camera against the telescope lens.) One recent night, we successfully used the SkyScout to locate Saturn, then looked through the telescope and saw its rings. (And in the morning, point it at a cruise ship and you can see Capt. Steubing on the Lido Deck.) Sky-gazing with a telescope requires a fair amount of sobriety, but…it gets dark early on St. John.

Villa owners? Check out reasonably priced telescopes (and some really expensive ones) here.

Can’t wait to get to Bongo and try yours out. We have one at the lake and never really see much at night. Sobriety definetly plays a role! If you use it in the day from the deck, you get wild people with their cloths off on the boat or ACTS you really didn’t want to see. We have seen it all. It is great for seeing if that is your friends on the boat down the cove!

A good pair of binoculars can be good also, especially for the sobriety impaired cause you can lay on your back and let the pool deck spin beneath you as you gaze at the stars with one eye closed for balance..

WIth good quality 10×50 binoculars you can see most anything that a medium priced telescope can see and carry them with you to the beach. Don’t get anything above a 10×50 in a binocular cause they get tough to handhold and keep steady…or maybe its just me :)

Sobriety is required?!? That’s it, I’m out.
