Parking brake, please!
You probably already saw this story from last week about a Mack truck just plumb rolling right off the Roanoke in Red Hook! It’s worth a click just to see the picture. A couple of things come to mind. How does a truck with nobody in it just roll off a barge? We’d guess there’s a driver with some s’plainin’ to do. And what if you’d been in front of it in your little Suzuki? The truck rolled forward with enough force to snap the barge’s gate open. Not a nice thought! The cool thing is the response from nearby construction workers with their backhoes. And all everybody else on that barge wanted to do was to get to St. John. Talk about bad barge karma.

Yikes- and my little rented Suzuki has been on the edge of that barge before. Note to self: refuse to load up in front of a Mack truck.

I was on the ferry in rough seas next to a truck loaded with bags of cement. It was frightening. It looked like the load of cement was going to fall on our car. OK, it was a rental, but we were inside. It would be nice if they kept the big trucks away from the cars.
