Red Hook holdup
You didn’t really think it would be ready on time, did you? The new, $9 million passenger ferry terminal at Red Hook, which should’ve opened this month, will now not completely open until May. BUT! The restrooms are open, which is worth noting because they’re really nice restrooms. (Well, at least the boys room, we didn’t investigate the girls room.) No, really. It’s a very nice head. I half expected somebody to hand me a warm terrycloth towel. Also, there is more order to the dock’s mayhem. The ticket booths are freshly painted and clearly marked. The food vendors trailers are neatly lined up nearby.
I got my chops busted by a hard-nosed security guard for snapping pictures here. I identified myself as a member of the working press and invoked my constitutional right to photograph a public space. (I’m not making this up.) She demanded identification. I produced all I had…an On-StJohn T-shirt. Without making eye contact, she waved me on and said “Have a nice day.”
VIDEO ALERT: BBQ Smackdown! There’s a new finger-lickin’ good choice in Cruz Bay. Uncle Joe finally has some competition. Details tomorrow On-StJohn.
