Not quite self serve
Look at the pump. See what’s missing? The overhauled E&C Station is self serve, but it is not self pay. Which means pre-pay. Which means you still get to interact with a human being. Twice. If it’s busy, there’s a line to prepay. And another to get your change or sign your receipt when you‘re done. It can actually take LONGER to fill up here than it used to. We miss the guy with one tooth missing and a big wad of 20s shoved down his front pocket.

if it doesn’t make sense it must be right.
honestly. they build a booth for an attendant to sit in to collect cash and credit cards. the attendant spends 5 minutes printing 2 receipts and having you sign both, and this is after you present him with your card and a least one form of ID.
why can’t they pay employees to sit on a stool and make sure each person has paid at the pump. no work would be involved!
pay at the pump was one of the most brilliant ideas ever, very cost effective and time saving for customers and owners….meaning we’ll never see this cost saving and time saving process on st john……because it would make sense.

oh, brother! If they find a way to make it more complicated, they will!

After being on St. John for 15 years and moving to the States 2 years ago I had to learn how to do all that self-serve crap. The lady in the grocery store had to teach me how to put my debit card through the machine, and I paid cash for months at the gas station because I was afraid of the credit card thing. Yeah, sure, it’s faster, but where do you need to get to so quickly on St. John? Why not enjoy the breeze, the flowers, and the people you meet as you wait? I’ll take people-interaction any day over speed.

I might suggest stopping by Starfish and picking up a six pack first. After going through the roundabout to get to the gas station, having a cold one while you wait in line for gas might not be a bad idea. On second thought might be a good idea even before the roundabout is finished!
