Vetoed. Override?
The governor Thursday night vetoed a Senate passed measure endorsing the developers of Sirenua’s plans to build bigger buildings. Coming from a town where even bartenders have their own political action committee, we have been watching this story with great interest for a long time. This is fascinating politics.
It’s not a done deal yet. Now the Senate, a Unicameral by the way….a governmental body the USVI shares only with Nebraska…can move to override the governor’s veto. Good politics takes grass roots effort and the “St. John Coalition” is in high gear. There was a mass email Thursday night organizing groups to descend on individual senators. That’s a lot more effective than waving signs and writing letters.
As for Sirenusa sales, we count 17 units listed, from $1.390 million to $2.55 million. Here is the official Sirenusa Website.

One of these days, I am going to pull all the articles on this story. It is interesting how island politics works (or not).

Respectfully to The VI Senators and Senator at large Carmen Wesselhoft,
It takes more courage to admit to a mistake and learn from it than it does to stand by one.

Hey BJH, it takes even more courage to reject the thick envelopes.

I will say my concern is the fact of a 4 story building, and the lay of the land.
I just think Sirenusa is more of a Sirenuisance then anything.
I did not like Grande Bay at first, still do not to a point but at least Julien Harley is now involved.
I do hope the senators do not override the governors decision. STJ is losing alot of its natural beauty when we overdevelop that little bit we have to build on.
I just hope and pray that we can get a planner very soon, not soon come!

Hey Promoguy!
You are RIGHT on the money with that reply!

I’m sure Wesselhoft will vote to override since it’s fairly obvious somebody at Sirenusa has her in their pocket. It was no less than disgusting that she voted to allow these jerks to do whatever they want with no regard for building codes and laws.

Go to the site and check the slideshow. Now, tell me, did they photoshop the water in the pond (not a pond any more). It looks too blue to me.
I can give them pictures taken from Peace O’Heaven that show what a blight on the hillside it is. And, where are the shots of it from town? It looks oh so lovely.

Ha ha! Rosi, “Sirenuisance” is such a great name!!

If it is overridden, I hope not, they need to overcome: no fire sprinklers, ie(no insurance, and no way to put out a fire.), no cisterns, ie(no water when Cruz Bay has none, oh, and no place to put trucked in water). No sewer line, (at least they can’t overwhelm the Cruz Bay system if there’s no line to it. Those below, watch out.) It’ll also be hard to sell when disclosing the above. They should have done it the right way. Oh, ya, they built with steel insted of concrete, steel rusts and falls apart. I wouldn’t buy one!

Everytime i sit at Woody’s it looks like it is crawling towards town more and more…I would not want to live to close to it and hear all the loud pounding noise all day…..Gee maybe people up there need to invest in some ear plugs and Advil…

No sewer line? Is there an on-site system?
I saw a sprinkler system at Grande Bay and wondered about Sirenusa.
Sounds like whoever intially approved the project wasn’t doing their job.
