Contain yourself

A couple of guys have imported a bunch of brand new containers from China and are renting them out. It’s called Storage On Site. Now, in the container business, you have basically two choices. 40 feet. Or 20 feet. These guys are taking a page from the very popular stateside mobile self-storage business and applying it to St. John. Their containers also include 13 feet, 10 feet and even 6 feet, which plays particularly well to the difficult time you have figuring out where to park a container on St. John. And if you want one configured as an office (with window, door and A/C), no problem. And their rent or lease rates are a whole lot less than what a shipping company is going to charge you to keep their container for awhile. If you live on St. John or are building on St. John, your mind is already racing.

But here’s another thought. Why build a villa at all? Buy a lot, and put your family in a container. Add a Weber grill and you’re done. No fuss, no muss. You spend most of your time outside anyway, right? (Homeowners association presidents all across the island are having heart attacks. Don’t even think about it.) Their site is here.

This really isn’t as dumb as it sounds. When my husband and I went to Australia, 2 of our nights at Kakadu National Park were in a very small tent, but they offered other accommodations as well such as motel, hotel and (if you can believe it) air/conditioned cubicles located in just such a trailor!

Hmmmmm….Jeff, the way I see it, even if you had to get two of those units, you could have s had a savings of….well….around 1.3 million
(of course you would have had to swim in the ocean instead of the pool)

Of course, you’d have to factor in the PortaPotty rental as well.

Poor Rob. Delusions of grandeur have already set in.

All association presidents quickly learn the rest of the homeowners are out to get them.

To clarify Rob’s post: If you haven’t stumbled across his blog, you should put it on your list. As the new president of his homeowners’ association, he holds nothing back. It is also rated R, as in outrageous.

I actually know of someone who lives in an old truck trailer up on Bordeaux Mountain. Not so crazy!

Jeff, Thank you for that www.nogooddaddy.com link. I love that guy! He is soooo funny! I’m going to come up with better nicknames for everyone I know.

We’re not moving to STJ sadly, but we are moving in a couple of months and still don’t have a place to live while we build a house. Sea Container is going on the possibility list and porta potty.
