The honeymoon is over
We didn’t see the Governor’s comments about the Sirenusa veto override in any of the local news coverage, so we thought we’d post it. Here it is:
Government House comments on override of SirenUSA development zoning variance veto
Government House expressed no surprise Tuesday at the 27th Legislature’s override of a gubernatorial veto which now facilitates a zoning variance being granted to Cruz Bay Condo Project known commonly as SirenUSA development in Estate Enighed on St. John.
“Given the original 13-1 vote in favor of the zoning variance, my administration was aware that a strong possibility existed for an override of the veto,” Gov. John P. de Jongh said Tuesday. Despite the arguments presented in the veto message, it is unfortunate that the Senate did not share my administration’s concerns or those that have been expressed by residents of this community about zoning and development, deJongh added.
“It is required that we stand up and take account of the community’s interest and concerns rather than the special interest of a few in making important both moral and legal decisions,” the Chief Executive noted.

So…’splain this to me. Sirenusa can now be bigger? And, in this case, bigger can also mean taller, right? I know things work on island time, but when would they start nin on these new buildings? The house we rent is a hill and a half from the site. Last summer, we had to deal with construction noise, but I’m afraid by next year it will be a lot worse. Anyone know of a good 2BR place we can rent? Needs a pool and A/C in the bedrooms.
Anyone?

Rob i believe the additional floors have already been started. lack of permits haven’t stopped them from doing what they wanted from the beginning. at least here stateside our politictians try to hide their corruption. down there they wear it as a badge of honor

Can I get some photos? Maybe taken from Cruz Bay, looking up the hill. I am getting flack from my travel compatriots about just wanting to switch houses to something else (maybe with a waffle iron), but I want to see how “bad” things look and sound.

We rent a house close to Sirenusa. Just got back a couple weeks ago. Tap tap tap during the day but nothing really even that noticeable. Not like the previous year when they were blasting that blue *itch rock–THAT’s what makes construction on the island NOISY! Think Sirenusa is all done with that part as someone else mentioned they had already gone ahead and raised the skeleton for the additional units. It’s just a matter of putting up the wall skins & doing all the inside tinkering….

Entered into a contract to puchase a unit in jan 06 with completion to be finished by 7/07. As of 1/08 nothing has been built. Tried to negate contract on terms of noncompliance and was told by Marzanno’s attorney, Bill McConnell, that they would drag out any litigation for years. Never did address a reasonable completion date. Totally unscrupulous, greedy and shady. Buyer beware.
