Beach Break: Cinnamon Beach, part two
This is one big beach. You can buy food and drink here, and you can also rent watersports equipment. (There is a little 16 foot Hobie Cat you can rent that is REALLY fast.) The crowd here tends to be on the young side too, so it’s a good place to go if you want to see what your body is supposed to look like. It’s the first week in January, 2000. My wife and I are on the last day of a Caribbean cruise and we’re docked at Havensight. Based strictly on word of mouth, we had a feeling STT had awfulness potential. Some people at breakfast told us to hop a ferry to St John because it was better than STT.
Reluctantly, we rode to Red Hook and boarded the ferry. My wife befriended some people (we’d gotten separated) who were doing the craziest thing ever. They were renting a villa for a week! What? Who does that?
I met a woman and her mom. The daughter’s husband was stationed on STT with the Coast Guard. They told me to go to Cinnamon Bay if we only had a short time on the island.
We climbed in some crazy truck/taxi thing (What the heck is that?) and set out. It was windy, and there was sand everywhere. But, something about STJ ans Cinnamon got to us. It rained on the way back to town and we got soaked. We poked in and out of the stores and went back to the ship.
But, something made her say to me once I’d finally amassed enough Delta Miles “Let’s go back to STJ and rent one of those houses”
The rest is history. Thank you, Cinnamon Bay.
