Beach Break: Reef Bay

Surf’s up, dude. It may not be Malibu, but Reef Bay can have some big surf by St. John standards. Hike the trail here, or stay at a house in the area and find a path through the woods. Reef Bay, on a surfin’ day, below!

    Great beach break once again!!

We stayed for a week overlooking Reef Bay and just love the solitude that side of the island offers. It is so different from all the other beaches on St. John, Most of the time we were the only people on the beach other than a handful of surfers one day. But that trail isn’t the easiest to find or negotiate either so I’m sure that keeps most folks away.

If you walk way down towards the Reef bay trail end of the beach you can find quite a few baby sharks in the grass beds, I’m sure mama sharks are just offshore waiting for unsuspecting tourists! :D

Reef Bay is out past Fish Bay - just continue on the road that takes you to Rendevous, Ditliff, etc and you will be there.

I stayed there a week this May and it is beautiful!!!

Thank you for the awesome Wednesday break.

Ahhh, very nice. The hills are so green. We drove back there in May and the roads are certainly better than they used to be.

    Cheers, RickG

This is by far my favorite “beach break” yet. Pete and I absolutely LOVE the views over there. Nothing but green hills and azure waters. Scary drive the first time we went. In fact, we call it the “freak out” drive because I had a panic attack the first time out there. Now I just bring a cold Carib with and it’s not so bad. No matter where we are staying on island, we never leave without at least one drive out there. Oh ya, and the trail to the beach is really cool; love hanging onto the ropes to scramble your way down.

Thanks you guys. This one will be played over and over and over on my ‘puter.

Ahhh … this beach break brings back so many fond memories of Reef Bay. My family built the first house in Estate Fish Bay 30+ years ago, overlooking Reef Bay. At that time, we were the only people living out there, and everyone thought we were crazy! We had no electricity and the dirt road was really, really, rough! We would hike down to Reef Bay beach for a swim every afternoon. Those were the good ole’ days. After all these years, it’s still simply paradise …

I’m becoming strangely fond of the Summer Ale music– what is that? — it sounds very familiar somehow… maybe it’s just that it leads to such a sweet bit of nostalgia. Thanks again for another great video.
