Let the eyesore begin

The Texaco station served up its last tank of gas last week, and is now surrounded by this beautiful fence and sheet metal wall. Very attractive, huh? Your federal government tax dollars are paying for this roundabout project, which will take at least a couple of years to complete. In the meantime, here’s a look at the beginning of what will no doubt be an ugly mess for awhile.

“which will take at least a couple of years to complete.”

Yah, right! if it happens in under 5 years i’ll be amazed. I say 2 years to talk about starting it and 3 to do the work. soon come Mon.

Let’s hope that the pine peace station is able to keep up with the demand. I’d hate to have to rent a car, be on the CB side of the island and need to do my buying in Coral Bay.

When I picked up my car a couple of weeks ago I took it on nearly empty. Might be a good idea to insist on a full tank when renting. With the caveat that insisting usually doesn’t get you anywhere.

Was just happy last week that I could get my last five dollars of gas from the station as they were shuttering the place up.

I didn’t see the sheet metal going up, but while their working out the devil in the details, they might have just built themselves a blind intersection. LOL.

Ah, the joy of just giving the keys back.

Wait…this is really happening? I always kinda figured it was more of a joke.

If they build this thing, how on God’s Green Earth are you supposed to get anywhere but the North Shore from town? The intersection is kinda the intersection of all of STJ.

    This is not good

Let’s see - and when is that update on the park supposed to have happened? Wasn’t is supposed to be completed by carnival 06? They still haven’t planted a bush. And they think this roundabout will happen in a year or so? HA

I just wonder if this would turn into one of those “F-it. We’re doing the project” kind of things that they’ll start no matter what.

I need someone to tell me how on Earth we’ll be able to get anywhere on the island with that mess going on.

You will not, unless you walk. They will close the road. The road was CLOSED (cannot remember what year 1980’s) while pipes were put in.

Then I need to find a new island. I mean…it doesn’t make sense. If you close the intersection, how do you get up Centerline Road and into the heart of the island?

When you have lived on St. John for a long time you know nothing makes sense! You get up Centerline Road by the LONG way around. North Shore by the way of Coral Bay or South Shore and take Gift Hill road. We do not know if they will close off the road so I would just chill until then. However, I would not be surprised - just as I am not surprised by the ridiculous time frame quoted of two years. Two years - maybe they think fossil relics, artifacts or human remains will be found and a archaeologist will need to be called?
