Jacob’s ladder: 1, Truck: 0

Ever wonder why people don’t follow big trucks too closely up steep hills?  Just when you were all complacent, here’s another reminder of why this can be a bad-ass hill out of Cruz Bay. A sunny, completely dry Monday morning, and a food delivery truck loses momentum and slides frighteningly backwards. And spins and almost flips. No injuries, unless you count truck driver ego.

This closed the road from mid-morning until noon-ish, diverting traffic through Contant, which is actually not a bad diversion. If you’re not in a hurry, drive the road. South at the top of Jacob’s ladder, or South at the basketball court just before E&C gas station. Amazing vistas.

The fresh melon plate at The Westin? Not today.

The jeep we rented last summed did that on Jacob’s Ladder and all it had in it was me and the Mrs. That was scary, I can’t imagine seeing a truck do it.

I hate when people double park.

This morning while playing our daily work-day dualing get up/dressed/showered for work routine, Pete mentions as we pass by each other that I will particularly enjoy today’s posting here. “Marcia, it’s your worst nightmare.” Damn, he was right.

Ohmygod. A few years ago, a cement truck teetered in front of us on the worst hilly switchback on STJ. There is nothing quite like being sandwiched between the truck ahead of you (rolling/tumbling/teetering backwards) and a line of cars behind you. Did you know that cement trucks actually can get up those hills on two wheels? Well, they aren’t supposed to but this one did. If he hadn’t figured it out, we would most certainly not be here today.

    Phew.
