You’re not checking luggage. (Okay?)

Cyril E. King Airport is still operating luggage belts at 50 percent capacity, and that’s not good. People look pale waiting for luggage here. Hot and pale and grumpy. Eliminate the stress. Don’t check bags.

The state of air travel is horrible these days anyway. As you either know first hand or have read about, or are about to discover, this is the summer from hell for flying. And getting to St. Thomas (or home) is near the top of the horrible-ness list. If there is anything we have become an expert on, it is this very subject. Trust us on this. Travel light. Check in online. Arrive early. And don’t piss off any airline employee because they’re about 50 times as grumpy as you’re going to be. Oh! Actually, a really GOOD Cyril E. King Airport update! (at least as good as an airport update can get.) We’ll get to it in a day or two. (US Airways counter: Washington Reagan National Airport.)

EVERYTHING that Jeff just said is sooo very true.
Listen to him and your trip will be much better.

Checking bags was not the problem for us. Our trip home was the travel day from hell. Line at the airline check-in; line to the curb for customs; snaking line after customs for security (one security station open…idiots). We got to the airport at 10:30 for a 1:15 flight. We got into the waiting area five minutes before our flight started boarding. Not a good way to end a relaxing vacation.

That airport just plain sucks. If we didn’t love STJ so much, we wouldn’t endure that place anymore.

I never had a problem with my checked luggage at CEK. It does take a little longer to get my bags, but thats what the bar is for. I usually arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Those Saturday to Saturday trips are long gone.

There is a reason there is a bar in the STT airport. Just grab a cold beer and relax. The bags will come…eventually. Hopefully.

There is another reason there is a bar in the STT airport! For what comes next after the luggage wait. The taxi men at curbside all shouting orders and arguing, just complete down right CONFUSION even with a dispatcher!
