Introducing The JeepCam

Since you liked Cruz Bay Cruise so much, we’ve decided to add a brand new, weekly feature. The JeepCam. But if we’re going to make this a regular feature, we’ve got to work on the production values. As one reader pointed out, “that inspection sticker’s got to go.” So…no shooting through the windshield.

After poking around at the hardware store considering various combinations of bungee cords, duct tape, pipe clamps and nuts and bolts…we decided not to risk seeing one of our cameras bouncing on the road in the rear view mirror. Simple is always best. We rigged a tripod in the cockpit and, voila! JeepCam.

Weekly JeepCam features coming soon. Requests encouraged!

What will they think of next?!

A drive out to the East End would be fun to see. Please leave the audio on so we can hear you freak out about the camera at the top every hill. :)

    Cool idea….
    A couple of quickie questions….
    1. How do you compensate for vibration of the vehicle using a tripod
    2. How to you maintain a horizontal skyline

    Thanks

I’ve always wanted to drive down that road that starts on Centerline and ends on NorthShore near Peter Bay. I’ve also heard that Bordeaux Mountain Road from Centerline to Coral Bay is pretty hairy. :-O

OK boys - are you breaking the “don’t not remove this Jeep top or else” rule or is that Bongo’s house Jeep?

Anything on island will be cool to watch.
    Great idea guys!

I dare you to drive out to Coral Bay, right at the three way and just before you get to Island Blues turn right at the Federal Road Route #108 sign and go up to the top. You should at least be able to go to the top of the paved switchback. Also, begin on Bordeaux Mountain road by the Chateau Bordeaux Rest. and drive towards Coral Bay. Its all quite fun actually.

Low fare alert - Just bought bunch of tickets on American - ATL - STT for $175 round trip (layover in MIA for a few hours) but a killer deal! Got an alert on Travelocity this AM. Travel from Sept 4 - Dec 13. Choose flexible dates - weekends are blacked out, but who cares!

    To Rob7:

Regarding your concerns about ambient vibration and maintaining a level horizon:

    It rattles and it’s crooked.

    Next question?

Looking forward to it rattles and all! If you can turn the camera, a look at Maho while driving might be pretty nice. I can’t think of a beach that you can drive up to on STJ, but that would be awesome.

I just saw the airfare for $175. We live in ATL and just paid $550 for a flight in September. Jeeez! We usually fly Delta direct flight, but could do a layover for that price!

    Rob7 - Very good questions.

    Jeff - Very good answers.

Ron and I laughed out loud, especially since he read Jeff’s reply to me using his “Jeff Voice.” (Almost everyone knows what I mean by this, right?)
