Beach Break: Hart Bay

Even on a calm day the surf at Hart Bay sings. Getting to this beach isn’t difficult, once you figure out where the paths that lead to it are. Or, you can rent one of the houses on Hart Bay, many of which have their own paths to the beach. There’s a very cool geodesic dome house on the cliff above Hart Bay, and we ran across a strange sort of sculpture on the beach that included a piece of driftwood, rope, a fork and a toothbrush. Spend a couple of minutes at Hart Bay, below…

Do you think this was a calm day or a rough day? It’s a cool beach, but I’d be askeered to go in there. We almost walked down there from Time Out, but we were too lazy.

Now I know I can bring a picnic to Hart Bay, use their utensils and brush my teeth afterwards!

You have to give us more time to comment before getting so mad at us! Here is mine. We stayed on Hart Bay for our first trip to St. John. The sound of the waves was so soothing, but it was never calm enough for us to snorkel. We tried one day, but got out about chest high and decided we were making a very bad mistake.

I was told that if you are going to snorkel, the best place to try and enter is by the big rock you showed sticking out of the water on the right side of the beach as you are facing the water.

Please keep the beach breaks. You know everyone loves them!

Wow, a calm day on Hart Bay. The last time I saw this bay calm enough to snorkel was 1997. It’s a great spot with some big deep channels in the coral that have overhangs and sandy floors. Because of the difficult entry, I’d call this one an advanced snorkel.

Maybe we’ll have a calm day for Hart Bay over Halloween!? That’s if Jorge lets me spend a day off the dive boat.

    Cheers, RickG

Please don’t be mad. I need the beach breaks too. Especially in a couple months. (I’m in Michigan).
