Come on down, the weather’s fine
Just look at that sky and that water. Hurricane season aside, September and October can be the best time of the year to be on St. John. No, really! Fewer people, cheaper rates, milder weather and warmer water. And did we mention the fewer people part? When is your favorite time of the year to visit St. John?

FEBRUARY!!!
September 18th, 2007 06:38
I’m partial to November. It seems there aren’t too many people visiting the island yet at that point and the weather is usually realy nice.
September 18th, 2007 06:45
We honeymooned in late May/early June on STJ. The hurricane “season” was just starting up, the skies were gorgeous, the temps decent, zero rainfall, and the humidity just a bit on the high side. It was technically off season, so the crowds were small at best. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect situation for a honeymoon.
September 18th, 2007 06:48
We just returned from St.John 3 days ago, and I have to say, hurricaine season aside, the Island never seemed nicer. Park anywhere, near empty beaches, perfect weather. And even with the restaurant closings, there were still plenty of good places to eat.

Been to STJ 4 times in October and never had a drop of rain. Returned this past August and it down poured for days!
October works for me! I would hop on a plane if I didn’t have kiddos and bills to pay!
September 18th, 2007 06:55
I can’t even believe it was almost a year ago that I was enjoying that view. We arrived 10/2 and out weather was fabulous. This year we are returning a little later - day after Thanksgiving. Hope there are no swells then.
September 18th, 2007 07:07
I’ll be there saturday
September 18th, 2007 07:14
For someone living in Northern Michigan there is only one time to be on St. John. January !
September 18th, 2007 07:15
My favorite time of the year is in January. I know it is high season, but the weather is usually picture perfect and it doesn’t rain very much in January. However, ANY time is my absolute favorite time to be in STJ!
September 18th, 2007 07:31
I love visiting in Sept/Oct ‘limin season’. Other then some of my fav restaurants are not open it is so nice that time.
I also like May/June
September 18th, 2007 07:35
High season is high season for a reason! Sure, part of it is because its so bloody cold above the Mason-Dixon line, but the other side is the perfect weather in STJ at that time of year. While I know you’re enjoying the “fewer people” part due to hurricane season, but it is BLOODY HOT! Give me January any time… Thanksgiving is also nice and peaceful and not quite as hot!
September 18th, 2007 07:45
We usually visit in early December, right before high season when the rates are still a little cheaper!!! Perfect weather every time! You’re in paradise, how could it NOT be perfect!
September 18th, 2007 07:47
We always come in July, but we’re thinking October for next year. Or April. Really people — compared to Maryland here, or Michigan or Kansas or Ohio or wherever, is there truly ever a BAD time to be in St John?
September 18th, 2007 07:55
Late February, early March… there is nothing like freezing your buns off while going from the car to the airport up north here and then hitting that rush of warm tropical air 4 hours later as the cabin doors open on STT.
September 18th, 2007 08:16
We’ve been in May, June, July, and October. All times have been great. We prefer low season because our money goes farther and we can stay longer. Plus, we don’t like to leave New England once the winter weather kicks in. It seems like you build up an immunity to the cold and wind after a while. Coming back into that weather after a week of sun and sand would be too depressing for me.
September 18th, 2007 09:19
I just hope that a “low” season will still take place on St. John! My biggest fear is that all year round will be “high” season!
The best time for us is June/July. For all the reasons you mentioned, plus, the days are longer (more sunshine) the water is warmer, the prices are cheaper, and did I mention less people? Also it is much cooler there in July than it is in Dallas! Wish I was going to be there this weekend!!

September 18th, 2007 10:55
anytime. what a great pic.
September 18th, 2007 11:24
anytime is a great time to be on stj
but we love to go at the end
of may (so you get that holiday to use)
plus it is off season. we all pray for good
weather on vacation, but who cares if your
walking in the rain on stj… drinking a
pinacolata and you have half a brain…
one more thing - whats the name of the villa
the pics at?
September 18th, 2007 12:32
Qball, not sure if your question is in jest but just in case it’s not, that villa in the pic would be a place called Bongo Bongo
I can tell by the way the railing does that sexy curve thang around the pool. It’s a cool little place - check it out some time!
September 18th, 2007 13:17
We have ALWAYS gone in May. Cause its cheap and we didn’t have kids in school. This year is the first foray into November. We’ll see! Any day on STJ is better than a day in DC.
September 18th, 2007 15:05
Early Summer. May/June. Can you say perfection!
September 18th, 2007 15:21
We always go in May also (our anniversary - were married there 5 years ago). But, we’ve been Jan/February and also October. Honestly, any time on St. John is a fabulous time to be there! Can’t wait to be back next Jan or Feb 2008!
That is definitely Bongo - I stayed there this past late Jan/early Feb and it is an amazing place. Great job guys!
September 18th, 2007 17:41
We go the first week in Dec. Still off season, everything is open getting ready for the season to start and great weather and warm water. The best part, getting all my christmas shopping done on the island and coming home rested and ready for the holidays!
September 18th, 2007 21:19
Looking forward to 2 weeks on St John is the only way to survive a Chicago winter, but timing is critical. Go too early and you return to months of cold dreary misery. Go too late and you’ll go insane waiting, and then come back and it’s already spring. It’s best to keep the waiting/anticipation to a managable amount, then return to bit more winter with spring not too far off. Cut that nasty winter right in half! That means late February or early March. It may be high season, it may be spring break, but that’s what works. Can’t wait…
September 19th, 2007 07:08
Any time is good, but the off season for me and my daughter is summer. The water is perfect the temp is great..the bugs well thats thier favorite time too.

September 25th, 2007 15:24
Oops, its always a perfect time in paradise… no, I didn’t have anything to drink yet.
October 6th, 2007 21:05
December!!! My 10-year anniversary of getting married on STJ. Can’t wait to return.
December 8th, 2007 11:10
