My husband and I own Perelandra and Gretchen (Cruz Bay Realty) had e-mailed me that it would be highlighted today so I checked in here. (I check in here regularly anyway because Jeff & co. are so creative and I really enjoy this website–love the beach breaks, up-to-the-minute newsy tidbits etc. They really do a terrific job on everything they undertake!).
All of which is a long prelude to explain why I’m posting here. I saw Lynn’s question re: whether it’s still being rented. Yes, Perelandra is definitely still being rented.
Furthermore, our r.e. contract stipulates that 1) any buyer would have to honor all bookings and 2) no house showings can take place when guests are renting.
We get a LOT of honeymooners & anniversary celebrants and the last thing on earth I would want to ask any of our guests to do is share their privacy with strangers.
Of course this makes Gretchen’s job a bit harder (an understatement) but she’s really been respectful of our wishes and just wonderful to work with. I’d highly recommend her to anyone reading this who might be in need of realty services.

I love your website and wish I could afford to live in the paraidse that is St. John.
I was surfing around your site and was hoping you could tell me more about the villa called 14-I John’s Folly?

Where is Jacob’s Ladder that you refer to? Love to know what areas are called when I visit!!

Jacob’s Ladder is a switchback in the road after you pass the Westin Resort. There are many on STJ but I too wondered why this switchback had a name!? All I know is when you drive up it or even down it the first time, you might be saying a little prayer!

Cynthia,
Just curious why you would want to sell your piece of paradise?

That’s one of our (my husband’s) favorites switchbacks….loves to squeal the tires in the jeep going up! (must be a guy thing!)

Actually, Jacob’s Ladder is the VERY steep hill going straight up right after Pine Peace (the only “hill” on St. John that has a hand-rail on it for those who have to walk up it!).
As far as why we have Perelandra on the market, it has to do with my ‘love’ priorities. I absolutely love Perelandra but when we bought it from the builder a few years back, we had 2 married kids and wanted to be able to have family vacations in Paradise. It was perfect for us.
Fast forward (almost) 5 years and we are now a family of 11! Our kids were born close together and they’ve had their kids close together (and many of them! but I’m not at all complaining, mind you
)
Anyway, we can’t really vacation together any longer. We would love to be able to buy something with a couple more bedrooms (still on St. John of course as, thankfully, our kids & grandkids have caught the “St. John bug” as bad as we have.)
A part of my heart will always be at Perelandra though. It was the 1st dream my husband and I ever bought and worked on together. I love gardening & have planted, and nurtured, lots of the plants on the property–it’ll be like leaving kids behind in a way; but, of course, not to really compare with my ‘flesh & blood’ ones. (Thus my earlier reference to my ‘love priorities’)…
