Pave paradise….

Technically, you can’t finish that line, since the parking lot was already there. But look what Slimman was busy doing this week. Gravel out. Blacktop in. Capital improvements are always signs of business being good. (Hey, it’s a weekend in September. This qualifies as news!) No word on whether rates will go up to pay for all that asphalt.

Can you ask the SlimMan what he would charge us for a week’s pass at the lot? I’d certainly pay up for that convenience.

I love Slimman. He is the nicest guy on the island. We always park there and have a nice chat, then we saw him at Trunk Bay one time on the beach and he came up and remembered us.

    Go Slimman!

I had a method to my madness. I would drive the block 10 times looking for a parking place to fit my Ford Explorer. The first few times they would wave to me and then they would wait for me to grumble and park and pay the $5 anyway. Nice to see it is paved. I am happy for their small business and that just proves, location, location, location! Sigh. I miss STJ. Thanks again for keeping our stateside bodies in the ‘know’!

Ah well, I hope the trees survive at least. If there was ever a place where gravel was a good thing, it was where all the oil-leaking island cars parked. I guess now the yuck will all run into the ocean when it rains.

I am however happy to know Slimman is doing well! (I’d buy land instead!)

I say finish the lyrics. It’s a good reminder.

“i said don’t it always seem to go
that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone
they paved paradise put up a parking lot …”

(and big condos…and overcrowded resorts…till it’s not paradise anymore)

Well, actually, it already was a parking lot, for as long as I can remember.
Before it was Slimman’s Parking Lot, it was the parking lot for Delbert Hill’s Jeep Rental.
So now, it’s a paved parking lot.
So yes, they paved paradise, but it already was a parking lot.
The Pink Hotel, The Boutique and The Swinging Hot Spot are another story entirely.

Slimman was one of the nicest people I met on St. John. Of course, I was always giving him money so maybe that’s why he was so nice. Seriously though, he was very personable and even let me park there free when I just needed to run across the street for just 2 minutes.
