Governor John deJongh watched the Yankees beat the Mariners 10-2 at that big Virgin Islands Day at Yankee Stadium thing yesterday. Here’s the gov during a pre-game in-field ceremony with Tourism Commish Beverly Nicholson Doty,Yankee pitcher Jose Veras, and the other guy is former Yankee (1967-1973) and native Virgin Islander Horace Clarke. Nice flag. Where’s the beer?
What can they possibly be doing in there? The old Chelsea Drugstore was not that big of a place. It’s September now, and Starfish has been busy, busy in there behind closed doors turning it into a gourmet shop since the beginning of the year. We still hear it will open NEXT MONTH and in addition to all that gourmet stuff, the store still plans to do some kind of picnic preparing/villa provisioning packages too. Bring it on, already.
Like spoiled little brats who demand constant praise, we bawled and screamed and spat up our food and threw things when we saw there was not one comment posted under the latest Beach Break, Hart Bay. So we’re taking our marbles and going home. No more Beach Breaks for you.
Even on a calm day the surf at Hart Bay sings. Getting to this beach isn’t difficult, once you figure out where the paths that lead to it are. Or, you can rent one of the houses on Hart Bay, many of which have their own paths to the beach. There’s a very cool geodesic dome house on the cliff above Hart Bay, and we ran across a strange sort of sculpture on the beach that included a piece of driftwood, rope, a fork and a toothbrush. Spend a couple of minutes at Hart Bay, below…
Luggage claim is back to 100 percent at Cyril E. King Airport. By that we mean both luggage belts are running. This may seem insignificant, but considering how long one of the two belts was down, it’s a big deal. And when we most recently flew out, two screening lines were moving right along, and all 8 Customs stations were open. So contrary to what you may be hearing, things seem to be getting better, not worse at the airport. Now about the size of those welcome rum punches…
The lone palm tree that has made Sandy Spit such a picture perfect little island is about to be washed away. As seen Sunday, the Sandy Spit palm is clinging to life and could very well be gone in the next day or two. Or, maybe it can be propped up and saved. Rough seas, maybe from Dean, have eaten away at the beautiful little cay’s beach, and that palm has been the victim. Sandy Spit, last month, as seen below.
Welcome our newest advertiser. L’Esprit de la Vie. We’ve only stayed here once, but we loved it. This would be a great house for 3 or 4 couples or if you‘ve got kids in tow. All four bedrooms are similar, big and far apart from each other. Sometimes big villa designers get the bedrooms right, but forget that also means a lot of people will be sharing the house and outside places. This one didn’t forget that part. There are lots of outside places and the great room is ENORMOUS. Oh, and the view? INCREDIBLE. Located in Point Rendezvous, it’s an easy drive about five minutes past the Westin.

On-StJohn.com was given unprecedented access to the former Panini Beach restaurant (the door was unlocked so we walked in.) This place may be empty now, but it won’t be for long. On-StJohn has learned that a new restaurant is already preparing to move into the place. Details soon.
