Want to be a barista?

After just a couple of years, one of the best additions to Marketplace is for sale. “Book and Bean,” both a bookstore and coffee shop was just listed. Beings I don’t read, the book part was always lost on me, but the coffee (organic, fair-trade) is great. Same for the chai tea and smoothies.

Actually, the owners hope to sell the Book and Bean business as it is, but it may end up being the leasehold that’s sold, which means anything could end up in this prime little spot. Owner Lisa McCarthy and husband Michael, a former Westin sales director, are off to the Big Island of Hawaii where he’s got a new gig with Hilton. And where they’ll find lots of Kona coffee.

You can find the numbers (leasehold sales price, gross revenue, rent, etc.) here.

If the financial information is correct, it looks alike a two person income job, with one working somewhere else. Looks nice, but also looks like it’s someone just buying a low paying job.

This is a GREAT store, you can’t beat the location! It’s going to be a good buy for someone.

Hey Mike, location and inside good looks aside, was just curious as to why you thought this would be a good buy.

    /just curious that’s all

I’m afraid you’re right, Alan. I crunched the numbers and the annual income would be about $19,000……not really enough to live on without a second or even third job.

But….may the dream live on!!! I’d love to be able to afford it, I’d keep it just like it is, maybe add wine to the list. I might change the name to “It’s OK to Wine”.

    JMHO,

No Sarah, it’s not you. It seems to be no longer available.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t have something to do with both Bert’s and my comments. If you had read the financials that were posted, you wouldn’t have had energy to look further.

The link now works. The original post contained a link that I did not know was not permanently available.

You know us better than that!

I know you wouldn’t have taken the link down. I figured it was the broker since that was the reference when you went there.

I realize that you believe in the old adage, that “the truth will set you free” or whatever that was that my religious guy used to say.

I printed off the information first thing this morning and I have to say, I agree with Promoguy and Caribert. Maybe the lease is below market, enhancing the value of the leasehold.

But then again, with some of the other things I have seen for sale on the island, nothing should surprise me.

Fixed again. Looks like the price was just lowered.
