To tame a thief

Stuff gets taken from villas. Not all the time and not in the hardened criminal sort of way. In the “memento” sort of way.

A margarita glass as a reminder of that perfectly grilled steak. A coffee table book that’s got a photo spread on what turned out to be a favorite beach. A Putumayo CD that was playing the first time a couple of lovebirds made out on a floatie. Almost always very inexpensive but sometimes hard to replace stuff. Which brings me to today’s photo. A sign. Signs are tempting. And one that says “This Way To The Beach”? That’s got snatch me written all over it. I WOULD TAKE IT!

Which brings me to the villa owner who has this sign. On the back, she has written what you see below. And it has stayed there for two years.

Has anything been taken from Bongo worth mentioning? Hopefully not the coffee grinder or waffle iron!

    Colleen:

Nothing. Except hangers. Lots of wood hangers.

(If you love a hanger, let it go. None have come back though.)

Folklore, if you want to tame a jumbie wear a paper bag on your head. However, maybe that is advice I should not give out. It only helps anyone thinking about thieving! So villa owners beware when you are picking up tourists form the ferry with paper bags on their heads.

People take hangers from your house? That’s just weird. What are they doing with them? I’d think they would take up too much room in the luggage.

I’ve taken books (novels, not coffee table books!) from villas before if I am in the middle of reading it when it’s time to move, but I always leave others in exchange.

    Mary Beth:

    You should have. They’re complimentary!

You did nab some of the itty bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body gel, didn’t you?

The shower caps are also huge hits. We buy them by the gross.

nope, the only stuff I swiped on that trip was from Caneel. I don’t think you had that stuff when I was there.
And just so you know I didn’t take the coffee grinder either! I came home and bought my own :)
