So long fair lady

The Beach Bar is missing one of its best. Michelle, a St. Johnian by way of Boston for the last decade, is gone. She packed up and moved to Rhode Island a couple of weeks ago. Love and a man and maybe the threat of melanoma pulled her back to the states. (On a personal note this is really sad because she always agreed with me over Russ and nobody else agrees with me over Russ down here and because she always finished the other half of my sandwich.)

She also hated having her picture taken, and if she finds out I posted this one on the  Internet she will hunt me down.  We once saw Michelle throw a homeless guy twice her size out on his ear. Sexy. Tough. That’s hot. Hawt.

Bye Michelle. You were one of the best.

Michelle was great! In fact, she is mentioned along with the Beach Bar in my book Keep Left which is just out. I’ll miss her as will everyone else!

That is sad! Michelle was one of my favorites, too (as well as Boo who last I saw was working the bar over at Fish Trap a month or so ago…) She was always nice and fun and made the best drinks. We’ll miss her.

10 years is a long time. Sure she had good reasons.
However guys a St. Johian, St. Thomian or a Cruzian is some one who is born in the Virgin Islands. Anyone else is a Virgin Islander. No matter how long you’ve live there. This can be a very touchy subject to some.

Sorry if i offended you Tommy. My point is/was that if you have ever tried living on St.John as beautiful as it is it is also very difficult. Ask anyone who has lived on St.john or has attempted it, it is not easy. However, like so many people have learned, once it gets into your soul/blood it is impossible to remove it. I bet you;re the guy who opens his mouth and inserts his foot before he thinks!!!

“sorry Russ and Jeff, I didn’t mean to cause a controversy on your great site.

I love Michelle……..my mom used to tell her that she made the best vodka tonic since it was all vodka………lol
I wonder is the man she went to RI for the one she lived on the boat with in Cruz Bay?
I love her she is one tough gal and she knows how to take care of herself.
The islands may stay in her blood (may be one of the reasons she is staying by the water hence RI) but 10 yrs maybe she wanted to try something new………
STJ and the surrounding places never leave your heart and soul they are forever etched.
I told someone once when I moved on island my heart and soul met for the first time. I still feel that a large part of my heart and soul are still on island waiting for me to return.

Jim- Don’t bite on that crap from Tom. For a “laid back” island, St. John is one of the most pretentious, uptight, un-laid back islands polluted with spoiled brat 20 something’s with unfriendly, bad attitudes. It’s no wonder cruising sailors don’t stop in St. John anymore. There was nothing rude about your comments, Michelle did have a nice run and will be missed.

I will bite my tongue here, though it is very hard.
To Michelle (wherever you are) and all other readers with an open mind and an open heart:
Happy New Year and may all your dreams come true, wherever they may lead you.

there are of lot of people in their 20’s or 30’s who have a bad attitude.. i wont name names or places of employment…but the overwhelming majority of people on st john are laid back and friendly..Like anywhere…avoid the places where the service is impolite…if you aren’t friendly to everyone on st john, you are not going to fit in…

Holy smokes! After a few years of going down to STJ, and realizing that she was there year after year, Michelle got to be one of the things about the island we looked forward to seeing again!! As someone said up above - the end of an era. Good luck and godspeed, Michelle. Dave will have to make all of our painkillers now (unless he left too!!!)
