Roanoke back with her bad self

The Roanoke car barge is back after refurbishment in Puerto Rico sporting a new, Rasta-like paint job. This is our favorite barge. It’s the one with the palm trees and, even though it’s not the fastest barge in service, it’s the one that’s most fun to ride over on. You can get out of your Jeep and sit on one of the decks instead of being trapped next to the garbage truck that keeps its diesel engine idling the whole trip. Roanoke, Capt’n Vic, General II and Mr. B are the current barge team. The original General is still around. It was sold to a company on Tortola last year, and can be seen running cargo around the BVIs.

Spiffy paint job! The Roanoke is my favorite barge also. Although, normally, I’m not picky and take any barge to ready to depart from the ramp.

I got my first glimpse of St. John on this barge, it’s something I’ll always remember. Glad it’s back. Can’t beat the palm trees and the upper deck view.
