Atlanta: Meet USVI

This new tourism commissioner, Beverly Nicholson-Doty, is earning her pay. If you’re in Atlanta, start looking for billboards, and ads on busses (this is one of the print ads) and a big radio and newspaper blitz, including trip giveaways. And Beverly is there this weekend to kick it all off. This ad campaign looks like it’s heavy on the “Come to St. Croix” side, but that’s okay with us. St. Croix needs a little boost. (A St. John Westin rep is also among those in Atlanta for the promotion this weekend, as are Delta Airlines reps, promoting their nonstop USVI flights from their Atlanta hub.)

“Georgia is one of the top ten geographic markets for the destination with over 110,000 visitors in the last five years,” Nicholson-Doty says in a statement. “ Our initiatives in Atlanta, as well as those cities we plan to visit in the upcoming months, create an exceptional opportunity to directly influence potential visitors from our most important markets.”

If you’re in Atlanta, free Cruzan rum punches at the Georgia Aquarium this weekend! If you’re not in Atlanta, the tourism team is heading to Washington, Philly, Boston, Dallas and Chicago next.

What! Free Cruzan Rum Punches! Life can’t get any better! I am so there! Besides the Aquarium is awesome! We live in Atlanta and have seen the U.S. Virgin Islands ‘Embassy’ of sorts. I am not surprised to have them do big advertising. I wonder how they count the number of visitors? My husband flies to STT every month for business. I don’t think he should be counted as a visitor. ;-)

The funny thing is that supposedly there are a lot of islanders living in Atlanta, but the only ones I run into are Jamaican. My daughter’s teacher is Jamaican. You can always tell as they say ‘Good Night’ as a greeting. Anyway, I will shut up now as no one is reading this anyway. ;-P

As an Atlantan, Delta has the ONLY non-stop to STT and they charge a FORTUNE!!! $1000 - Just booked flights to STT on US Air - Atlanta - Charlotte - STT for $380. Same Flights from Charlotte to STT are $550. What gives? Boo Delta!! We want Airtran to fly to STT from ATL! That would fix the prices!

Spirit Air now has $99 each way from Chicago to STT… can’t complain about that! Plus the planes are really nice, new Airbus planes with leather seats. Don’t know how they do it, but glad they do.
