Take out: Beach food

Most folks know about places like Deli Grotto (excellent) or Baked in the Sun (just as excellent) for food to go. There are other choices. They also come and go, so we like to give them a few months to prove they’ve got staying power. Here’s a couple of recently added options to consider for pre-beach preps. On the Cruz bay side, Starfish’s star chef Ted Robinson is still cranking out the Chef’s Ted Creations. Salads, sandwhiches and wraps. Here’s a grilled chicken Caesar salad. Very tasty. At $11.50, it’s also on the pricey side.

On the Coral Bay side, here’s the Big Belly Grinder, a major freaking sandwich, and about half the price, at the Big Belly Delly. (Did you just ask what’s on it? Don’t ask. Just eat.) Like Deli Grotto, Big Belly sandwiches are really obscenely huge. Unless you’re really hungry, one will do for two.

Thanks. Now I am soooo hungry. There is nothing like a hot day on the beach and sitting down to a picnic. Sigh. You all are really good at this you know. No wonder you are so famous. ;-)

And if a grinder isn’t enough… Big Belly has the world’s best chocolate chip cookies and pecan bars.

Looks like the deal is at Big Belly. Eleven bucks for a couple of pieces of lettuce, a couple of croutons and a couple of small slices of chicken ain’t that good of a deal.

THAT was $11? That is just plain silly. If Chef Ted pees in a cup on the side, is that extra???

The Big Belly sandwich looks awesome, though!

Where can you get a good sandwich to take to the beach for lunch from Cruz Bay? Definately not doing the $11.00 grilled chicken salad…looks good; just way too much $$$.

We’ll be walking distance to Big Belly in 3 weeks! I’m glad the location hasn’t changed hands again, that was getting silly.

Pianogirl, try Baked in the Sun on the top level of the Marketplace/Starfish Market complex and Deli Grotto at Mongoose Junction.

    Cheers, RickG

While Ted’s Caesar salad looks good, Big Belly Deli is getting my vote for more bang for the buck. We will have to try it next time. Can anyone mention exactly where in Coral Bay it is?

Friends of ours were on the island a couple of weeks ago and the ate at the Big Belly Deli. They said the food was great, very reasonably priced and that the portions were huge.
