Yacht spotting: Kismet

That’s Kismet, a brand new, 233 foot, $130 million yacht spotted off Frank Bay Friday night. It has made it’s way from Gibraltar last month to St. John, with an unscheduled stop for engine trouble in Funchal, Madiera, according to yachtspotter.com. Six decks and room for 12 guests (plus about two crew members for each of you.) And it includes “a disco.” You can charter it for $550,000 Euros a week. That’s $825,000. Per week! If you had that kind of money, why wouldn’t you just buy one? (Oh ya. Two best days in a boat owner’s life…)

Before you make your reservation, you should probably do a little research. Like here. And here.

We saw Kismet last Sunday, she anchored in front of our house in Magens Bay.

She was also there between Xmas and New Years. We went on line and checked her out since we had never seen anything quite that large pull into Magens. She stayed there for a couple of nights over the Holidays.

They pulled out the jet skis and had a blast racing around the calm waters of Magens. I would love to know who had the holiday charter.

dear god, im not sure what makes my head spin more…the price of the week on the boat, or that agent4stars page! how rich do you have to be to justify that price?

    happy easter, everyone.

I saw Kismet while dining at Zozo’s Friday night, I would love to know who was on board! There is a villa on St. John named Kismet, but there’s no relation. Wonder what Kismet means?

    kis·met
    –noun
    fate; destiny

We hope having $825,000 to blow on a week on a boat that’s not ours is our Kismet.

I’m not sure what they are selling on that second website. It looks like an escort service with a nautical theme.

Hmmm…that’s a big boat, and I sure can think of a better use for that kind of money!

The biggest yacht I ever saw was one afternoon when I had the bad luck to be having lunch at Anthony’s Pier Four (everyone who has been there knows what I mean!). Anyway, this big green yacht went by…it had a helicopter on it, and multiple speed boats on the back…it was HUGE. And, all around it were government speedboats with the requisite men in black on board. We found out later that it was Malcom Forbes’ yacht, and President Bush #1 and his wife were on board.

Neat boat. The fish still stunk though. (literally)

I hear Barak Obama is in the VI for spring break. He wouldn’t blow $825K on Kismet, would he? Nah. It’s probably a group of rich Europeans on-board …

Do you think the $825k includes a tankful of fuel??? If not, with a fuel capacity of 53.5 THOUSAND gallons and gas near $4.00/gal…that just may price it out of my vacation budget!
Glad to read it comes with a keg of beer!!!!

We realize that the years start to be hard to tell apart as we grow older, but the news on Yachtspotter about the engine trouble, etc. was from Feb. 2007–doubt that they were held up for a whole year in Madiera, although spare parts MIGHT be a little hard to come by!

We saw the yacht “Meduse” (at 198 feet, it’s the smaller of 2 yachts owned by Paul Allen of Microsoft) a few weeks back, going east along the southern coast of STJ. It then headed directly towards Rendezvous Bay until it was a few hundred yards out when it turned west and went to Cruz Bay. Later that day we saw it moored in the Bay. Glad the villa had a telescope… I was able to really check it out… thanks Jeff! : )

We saw the Kismet the week after easter in Nassau, Bahamas, while we were on the Norwegian Gem. It is beautiful, and the shades appeared to be drawn the entire time she was in port!

Is that the boat Bill Clinton was on, listening to the Blues Festival in Coral Bay Harbor? (actually he was on a red sailboat… so it is told).
