Cruz Bay workers to regain hundreds of pounds

The Jared-inspired lunch is no longer an option in town. Subway, which has been for sale for quite some time, is now officially closed. (Before you cheer the demise of stateside influence, that was a cheap place to get a relatively healthy lunch and workaday folk can’t afford to lunch at places like Lime Inn and Waterfront Bistro every day.)

The Cruz Bay Subway franchise was owned by the same person who owns the relatively new IHOP pancake house franchise on St. Thomas, which now we hear is also closing.

So now, a whole bunch of Subway fans are going to get fat again.

The lease, and possibly the Subway franchise, are still for sale. There’s still time to keep Cruz Bay skinny.

    Good Morning All,
I still love the huge sub sandwiches at the Starfish Deli in the Starfish Market. Have you tried them? Soooo good and you can almost share with a friend. We bought them before hitting the beach on St. John as our lunch. Subway is over rated. I still am amazed at the number of restaurant turnovers or closings on island. My two cents for the day.

I thought Kenny Chesney footed the bill for the Subway originally. Since he is leaving the island is this the real reason it is closing?????

Speaking of sandwiches on the island, I could really go for a tuna sandwich from the Deli Grotto – really just 1/2 of one since it’s so big and I’ll share the other half with anyone who wants it.

Not sure where I read about the closing of the IHOP, maybe ONEPAPER. Interesting read on why they closed. Seems along with all of their other expenses their WAPA bill was if I remember something like 11K a month. That’s a lot of money along with everything else.

I will miss the Subway on St. John. It was a good place to grab a decent lunch without paying a fortune. Loved their fresh baked cookies too.

I remember when the Subway first opened in Cruz Bay. There was a lot of concern that it was going to be the start of the franchising of STJ. Doesn’t seem like it’s turned out to be the start of a trend, although it is one in an increasingly long list of places that have not been able to make it recently.

jm…you’re right…what’s the deal with the constant buying, selling, opening and closing of STJ restaurants? its so hard to keep track of where to go. i was a fan of subway…easy, quick, cheap beach food!

Well, I really miss the place by the school, at the top of the hill, that sold pate’s… once I tried their spicy shrimp pate (is that the right spelling?), I was hooked. That was my favorite cheap eats.
