Roundabout: Six years and counting

Since this month is the sixth anniversary of when word of a traffic roundabout was first reported, we thought we’d update our photo archive with the latest picture of the old Texaco. The picture looks a lot like the ones we’ve been taking since shortly after the gas station closed about a year ago. Construction begins this summer? Maybe.

    Roundabout soon come?

Here’s an idea. Let me run the project and I’ll let the people down there run my Homeowner’s Association. In the end, nothing gets done and I get to live on StJ for a while.

    OK?

If pemits and approvals from environmental agencies are pending… it’s way worse than “soon come, mon”.

    Soon Come?

Yes, right after the ferry dock park gets it’s makeover.

Much as I hate longing for a symbol of big oil, the overgrown weeds and failing fence makes me nostalgic for the simple operation this scene has now replaced. If you look really hard at that picture I’m afraid you see the unfortunate future of the Virgin Islands.

Like the petroglyphs, hundreds (maybe thousands) of years from now people will marvel and wonder about the mystical significance of this fenced in site…

The thing that strikes me as odd about this project is that “intersection” already is a round-about, of sorts…well, it’s confusing as one…until you get used to it.

Jeff, you should do one of those time lapse segments on that intersection.

Only six months? It took 30+ years to get the barges move to Enighed pond. It’s less than half of what was planned. All we got was a concrete slab. Not even a bathroom with running water.

Like my husband, Pete said, the whole thing is already a “round-about” so why change it? Why not put the gas station back and call that good?
