"Attention Dumpster Shoppers"
The dumpster at Chocolate Hole is affectionately known as "Bloomingdales" since it always has the best goodies. The dumpster atop Gifft Hill is "Macy's". "KMart" is the dumpster in Coral Bay across from the gas station, and I live across from the dumpster at Concordia, a.k.a. "Target".
HOWEVER!!! We now have a thrift store in Coral Bay, so anything good that we had to leave by the dumpster in hope of it finding a new home can now be taken to "New To You Thrift Store" (which raises money for The Safety Zone charity) across from Island Blues, Coral Bay.

I will admit playing this game. True story, about a year ago I was driving by the dumpster near Jacob's Ladder, across from Alfredo's Nursery. Sitting in front, not in the dumpster, were 2 cool teal blue metal chairs. Anyway, I turned around, disguised myself with big sunglasses and my beach hat, and put them in my car. One is still on my deck, the other, too rusty for me to save, back to the front of the dumpster. Who knows where it lives now. Good times. Moral of the story, you never know what you'll get into, always travel with a disguise.

I am so with Colleen.

You go to this beautiful island, which prides itself on nature (2/3 being National Park) and has so many eco-friendly tourist options. But then, all of us, tourists and residents alike, take our garbage, 90% of which is recyclable and throw it into a plastic bag and toss it into the dumpster.

Why no recycling? I don't understand. Someone needs to 'splain. (Don't tell me that it's too expensive, that would be such a shame.)

Sorry, just venting. However, I'm glad to see that the items on the side of the dumpster are picked up. Now that's good recycling.

I once found a trash truck next to a dumpster with the motor still running and a perfectly good person holding on to the back end! The stuff people throw away! It runs like a top and remains a great little third vehicle six months later... The only drawbacks are it gets really crappy gas mileage, and that guy hanging onto the back end eats a lot.

Heh heh that happens around my house, too! It's a fun game to put something out and see how long it takes for it to disappear. 8 year old, completely fried computer monitor? Gone in an hour. Old propane grill with melted hoses and front panel (don't ask)? Gone in a couple of hours... except they left the lid to the grill. Why not take it, too? Good times :-)

People do that in my neighborhood! It's a fun game to put something on the curb and see how much time goes by before someone takes it. One time we were bringing multiple items to the curb and a person actually pulled up and parked across the street, waited for us to go back inside and then came right over and took what they wanted. I don't know if they are planning to use the stuff themselves, or sell it, or what, but I think it's great! Better than it all ending up in the dump, anyway.

Heck yeah, I'm into dumpster diving. A couple years back I found a perfectly good vacuum cleaner in our dumpster at work - had a clogged hose so someone chucked it rather than simply unclog it.

Still works great.

We tried that while we were on island. One of our suitcases broke on the way down (it was old anyway; a lock problem) & we decided to just box up the stuff that would have been in there & ship it back to Dallas. On the way down the hill we set the suitcase outside the dumpster & on the way back.....suitcase gone! I hope its getting good use for somebody somewhere! (We got a box from Ruth/Ron & mailed stuff back which arrived back to Dallas before we even got home.)

That's a great recycling program!

I just don't understand why the island can't recycle everything else: bottles, cans, paper, plastic, ect.
