A reality TV production crew and cast recently swarmed an Upper Peter Bay villa, shooting a new pilot. Amorosa served as the location for Momma’s Boys, being produced for NBC by American Idol host (and self-proclaimed momma’s boy) Ryan Seacrest.
Here’s the plot. Fill a house with overly-dependent sons, their mothers and a bunch of single women. “Conflict results when numerous mothers and their eligible bachelor sons are housed together with several brides-to-be. As the tension mounts, viewers will watch the controlling mothers search for their son’s perfect mate,” says an NBC press release.
We’ll watch just to see how they all enjoyed St. John.
No word on whether the crew got their security deposit back.
Here’s your own tour of Amorosa, in case you missed it a few months ago.
Picture this: A really GOOD picture of you and your friends or family on St. John. Why not. Better than that crooked, red-eyed, one guy missing, picture you’ve currently got sitting on your desk.
Bob Schlesinger is best known to off-islanders for his book, Desiring Paradise. To on-islanders, he is known as one of the guys on a very short list of good photographers. Bob does business as Tropical Focus.
And Bob wants to build his portfolio of vacation portraits. (Some of his work, below.)
Bob loves villa shoots and weddings too. We’ve worked with his villa photos and have seen his wedding work, and we can vouch for both.
Read our interview with Bob Schlesinger, and get a few tips for improving your own photos too, here!
Terrorist threat level, Cruz Bay: Orange and a half.Additional fencing was just put in place, stretching from the gate across a good portion of the covered waiting area. That outta keep Al Qaeda out!
Since we’re on the subject, here’s a fun rendition of Cole Porter’s song. This one’s produced by David Byrne. Remember him? The Talking Heads guy? (You won’t see the St. John relevance here, until the next time you are getting on or off the ferry when you see that new fence and you start singing this song. That’s the way this stuff works.)
This is pretty serious stuff for some of these boat owners. There was at least one boat knocked to the rocks in Great Cruz Bay as well.
Captain John Brandi submits some on-the-scene video of yesterday’s first look at storm surge damage in Chocolate Hole. John, who usually keeps Palma Bella in Chocolate Hole, says he moved to Cruz Bay and all is well.
Chocolate Hole boaters were busy Thursday assessing damage after rough seas tossed several small boats onto the beach, and at least two big sailboats as well.
A guy who lived on St. John for years once told us he thought the coolest thing about cable TV was the Weather Channel. Every fall, you could watch the radar images of tropical storms likely to form… “and see one bright red fireball after another being thrown off the coast of Africa.”
We don’t know how cool it actually is, but that’s a pretty accurate description of the last couple of weeks this hurricane season. Fay, Gustav, Hannah, Ike and Josephine.
Hannah is hundreds of miles away from the Virgin Islands, but its outer bands are taking the fun out of vacations right now. OSJ reader Ron sends in this clip of almost always-glassy Frank Bay from Wednesday evening.
To this day, our reaction every time we come through a tree line and onto one of St. John’s beaches is “Wow.” It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve been there. Honeymoon Beach is no exception.
And here’s the easiest way to Honeymoon. Park at Caneel Bay Resort and walk there.
(BTW, this is probably the prettiest beach video we’ve ever put on this site. Feel free to agree with us.)
…when all those folks who spend 10 or 11 months a year making sure all of us have a good time, gear back and take a little time for themselves. That, and the fact that there is less business for them. September and October is also paint and repair season.
