New plans for St. John Inn

You’d think April and Dave Wolf would have plenty to keep them busy with their soon-to-open bar and restaurant, The Crazy Cracker. Apparently not.
April and Dave are now officially the new owners of the St. John Inn. And they’re already getting down to business there.
“Right now, the renovations are simple. We’re doing a lot of painting and cleaning and adding a lot of landscaping,” says April. “But next year we plan to really transform the place into a nice, boutique hotel.”
Those plans include putting in a bigger pool and expanding the pool deck area, adding plasma TVs and memory foam beds to all of the rooms and, later, expanding the hotel itself with new construction on an adjoining vacant lot that came with the property.
“We’ll also reopen the honor bar right away, and we’ve already reinstated the complimentary continental breakfast,” April says.
(We’re told the St. John Inn was quite the place back in the day. In the 1970’s, it was called the Bamboo Inn, and was a lively local spot with lobster dinners, bands and dancing.)
As for The Crazy Cracker, April and Dave are shooting for a December 11 grand opening.

Pretty cool. STJ needs a littl place like this. Its kind of like some of the throwback places still kicking around in the BVI’s.

Wow…very ambitious. I wish them all the luck in the world taking on such large projects.

Some more history for those of you who are interedted. In the 1960′s, the Inn was owned and operated by Ms. Malvine Sewer under the name of “Accommodation Inn. (My husband Albert stayed there once and has great stories about it). Later on, it bacame “the Inn” operated by June Barlas, and then “the Bamboo Inn” operated by Herman Mitchell, a relative of the Sewers. Albert & I bought it in the mid 1980′s and ran it as “the Cruz Inn”. It was bought by the Hoffmans in the 1990′s and turned into a kind of California-type boutique hotel. I believe it has sold twice since then.

Thanks for the history Lonnie! There was music there as well as several small shops when June Barlas had it. I worked in Uhuru Boutique and later had Enighed Workshop there in the early 70′s. Brings back good memories. Quite a change.

My wife and I were just talking about the St. John Inn the other day. We’ll need to bunk someplace for about 3 nights in July ’09 – and now we’re curious to see the improvements! Possibilities… : )

My wife & I stayed at the St. John Inn in 2005, it was getting pretty run down at that point. It’s great to see it coming back to life, nice easy walk into town..
