When excess is excessive

Sunday afternoon at the Gourmet Market conversation:
Jeff: Because my friends won’t believe I just paid $24.79 for a duck breast.
Cashier Guy: Is that good or bad?
Jeff: Bad. Very bad.
Cashier Guy: Welcome to St. John!
We’re not cheap guys… and our Rip Off Meter has been severely altered by St. John over the years, but that’s just nutso. It’s a smoked meat product with a healthy shelf life ($9.99/pound at Whole Foods.) There are times we seriously consider becoming Cooler People. Tasty though. Throw one on the grill for a couple of minutes.

The duck would have been willing to pay far more than $24.79 to get it back. But since ducks don’t usually carry cash, Cashier Guy would have had to put it on his bill… oh groan…

I stop at nuskies evry time I go up north. at their store in front of the butcher shop it is 5.99. They had their smoked pork chop at starfish gourmet for 24.99 a Lbs and they are only 4.99 lbs at home. That is why I’m a cooler person

I too am a Cooler Person and proud of it!! 3 couples this trip – 2 meals each – do the math!!

Come to the dark side. It’s nice here. Coolers of prime steaks, baked goodies, the finest of pork chops….
It’s a wonderful place.

That looks looks like maybe about a 2 pound breast. Math time: 2 X 9.99 = 19.98 plus refrigerated freight from the states, higher rent and less turnaround. Not that bad of a price. We are NOT in Camden guys. Stop comparing prices as such!! And we don’t eat duck every night do we??

Once you go cooler you never go back!

Wally… it was 0.85 pounds. That’s $28.99/pound.

Cooler Heads will prevail…

If it we me……
Return the duck, take the money and invest it in more Becks….after a while, you’ll forget all about not getting the duck.

After 21 years – I confess, last year we become “Cooler People”. The staff at the Westin enjoyed our daily baking and our homemade dinners ranging from meatloaf and mashed potatoes to grilled amaretto ribeyes. The benefit of being a “Cooler Person” now, we get to stay for TWO weeks instead of one. The money we save bringing our meats and poultry along with my cookie sheets and brownie mixes allow us to stay for an extra week. Don’t get me wrong, we still eat out – our ritual is the first meal on the island is straight to Uncle Joes. Don’t forget the Lime Inn for my daughter’s and husbands birthday celebrations. Can’t forget the conch fritters at Woody’s as a hold-me-over in the afternoon.
Merry Christmas to all!

I became a Cooler Person two trips ago. I can’t turn back now.

Former cooler person, now a Cost-U-Less person. Too lazy to bring cooler since I found out some items are even cheaper at Cost-U-Less than at home. IQF Boneless Breast for 1.59/lb from Sanderson Farms.
Of course, you have to become a car barge person instead of a ferry person.

Oh, duck all of you.
(had to do it.)

This trip…
I AM a cooler person.
Have to, only way to make this vacation work.
Economy plays havoc on everyone.
Just this once, trust me if its too much of a hassle it will NEVER happen again.
I am the kind of person that if I could live on just the clothes off my back for 2 weeks, I would. But clearly, we all know a women cannot do that!
