Courtesy Car Rental relocates

When the landlord says you have to go, you have to go. Courtesy Car Rental relocated a couple of weeks ago from its prime Cruz Bay location to what is now officially Rental Car Row. Navigate the rising roundabout heading toward Starfish and take your first right toward St. John Inn.

“My lease was not renewed,” Courtesy Car Rental owner Greg Edwards tells us. “I’ve lost the walk-in customers and I miss the location, but being closer other car rental companies makes it easier for me to refer to them when I’m out of vehicles,” he says.

The landlord also owns the old Front Yard location, giving him two very nice pieces of real estate on the Monopoly board. When we asked him what’s up, all he would tell us was “We’ve got something up our sleeves.”

A good guess would be Banco Popular, but it’s just a guess. We’d press for more information, but we’re really busy right now with license plates, sunsets and plugs for artists.

This is such a shame — most of my houseguests this year rented from Courtesy, and every one of them raved about how much they enjoyed being able to park in that lot. Greg’s a good guy, and I hope the location change doesn’t hurt his business too much. Courtesy definitely lives up to its name.

Wow, I can’t believe how nasty some of you readers are with your comments. I hope they are meant in jest, but somehow I don’t think so….
    What a bunch of whiners!

I like the sunrises, moonrises, etc. Keep up the good work!

I love renting from Courtesy but this time their cars sure weren’t in very good shape. Very bad tires on 2 of them and none of the radios worked in 3 vehicles. Location was okay, but not handy at all like before.

Let’s chalk up the latest selfish ickiness to holiday stress.

I think the latest crop of Debbie Downers are nice people who forgot that the internet does not revolve around them and there are plenty of people who like moonrises and sunsets and local STJ art information.

If these said Downers would like to make suggestions that the Bongo Boys reintroduce popular features such as the Jeep Cam etc, they can do so in a civil manner all the while appreciating the years of entertainment that Jeff and Russ have provided.

In sum, shut up whiners! There’s no room for nastiness here.

You guys just keep on with the sunsets, moonrises, license plates and for sure keep up the plugs for artists…I know one off-island that could use a plug or two…
You guys know what you’re doing…you’re the best!

For those who have nothing better to do than complain…I give you a sign from the Green Parrot Bar in Key West: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/420126

I rented from Courtesy last week, and they gave us the same polite, welcoming service they give us every year. Upon arriving, they picked us from the ferry dock and showed us the location of their new lot. They offer the same free parking they did at their previous lot. The only downside for them as of right now is their power situation, Greg explain to us that he is waiting patiently on WAPA to hook him up to the line for complete wattage. And Debra, you have to understand, its the end of the year…the vehicle’s are ready to go…time for new ones. And some just need servicing, but since they are constantly going out the same time they’re coming in, it’s hard for them. It is the busy season for STJ. If you do rent from them again, just say your a repeating customer and ask for a new vehicle, I’m sure they will b glad to. They have more me…happy holidays to everyone..

As I said on the other thread, we appreciate your hard work in keeping this site going. The Mr. Mullens of the world need to chill.

Hope you have a happy holiday season. Pete

So it’s near conrad sutton’s now?

As an aside, this site HAS changed – I still like it, but it has changed nonetheless. I would like to see some entries on the experience of putting Bongo Bongo up for sale vs. the experience of building it. I think it would be interesting.

Also, I like reading stories about the people you see around – like I-Tal over by salt pond – after reading about him somewhere else I’m definately going check out his wares. Also, is Sweets still open for snorkeling/food in John’s Folly? and hows the food at The Tourist Trap?

Courtesy is the ONLY car rental service that meets my guests at the dock – with the car. It is a huge help to me and our guests in that we don’t have to load the luggage twice (once in my car, once in theirs) or drag it up the hill to the rental office.

That said, I just read all the posts about this sites’ content/direction. I enjoy On St. John. It shows me (mot a “wannabee”) different aspects of St. John than I notice in my everyday life. Kind of lets me enjoy the island through the eyes of a tourist – and reminds me why people keep coming, and coming back again. There is room for all kinds of expression and I appreciate the bongo boys’ labor of love (plus a little advertising money)!

    Merry Christmas, and

    peace…. bert

Yo guys, post whatever you want to post. It’s your web site and the last time I checked, our subscriptions were free.
If you wanted to reject the Debbie Downer comments, it would be okay with me. Let them get their own web site. Or write a book. Whatever.

okay, Courtesy is good. We like the sunset, sunrise & moonrise pics. And yes there is a lot of helpful info on this site. Remember the article in early November about the couple that won $1200 at the casino and couldn’t collect because they didn’t have a s.s. card? They ended up spending two days of their vacation traveling to St.Thomas to get a card. I did, so 2 weeks later when we were packing for our annual Thanksgiving trip to St. John I put my s.s. card in my wallet. The look on the casino manager’s face when my husband hit for 3K and I handed over my license and s.s. card…..PRICELSS! Thanks Guys!

I agree wholeheartedly with you Ruth.
We do not have to pay to read what Jeff and Russ post. In fact Jeff and Russ do this site and keep it maintained for us all.
If you do not like it then just do not read it and come back and read something later.
Go and look at a past jeep cam you may have forgotten before you head to island
    Happy Holidays all

I cannot imagine creating a blog that has to thrill everyone on a DAILY basis. Most blogs are only updated periodically, when the blogger feels like there is something important to share. You guys are different and I appreciate that DAILY.

I’m fine with license plates, Holiday cards, etc…as fillers. Who cares? It’s something new to read and is all STJ related.

Have a wonderful Holiday all. And, to Jeff and Russ, thank you for all that you provide here for us STJ junkies.

The number of comments every day tells you how much people love this site. Every other blog I look at has nothing but “Comments: 0″, one after another. This is comment #16 on “Car Rental Relocates”. Are you kidding me?? That’s loyalty. Keep up the good work, guys and…

    Merry Christmas everyone!
