WiFi robbery

There is a key word missing from the Wi-Fi signs around Wharfside Village; Free. And it most certainly is not.
We think the Wi-Fi here is a total tourist rip-off. You’ll be prompted to sign up, for $25 for a day ($10 for three hours if you don’t log off), $135 for a week, or $200 for a month.
(Tip: iPhone users will connect for free to this WiFi signal for email access, but not for Webbing.)
If you need fast Wi-Fi access, go sit in the park or at JJ’s. You’ll get the connection from, uh, Connections. The Wi-Fi you’ll pick up from Jason at Computer Express (inside Connections) is absolutely free, and it’s a good, strong signal. (But stop that already. There are beaches to be seen.)

I couldn’t agree more!

That is a total rip-off. I think WiFi should be free for everyone all the time, but then I think that about a lot of stuff.

Can you get WiFi while watching the boat races on Sunday????
Seems like the beaches, boats and bars would be higher priorities than computer time anyway….

Who runs that WiFi spot? Might as well identify the thief.

connections is cool with people hitching onto their system?

Happy to say I don’t know what wifi is. And proud of it

I always thought the idea was to offer things like that free – and then people would linger long enough to see something they want to buy. Or shop there for the convenience of taking care of a few things in one place.
So thanks for the info on the free wi-fi. And everyone, buy a drink at JJ’s while your there!

Free Wifi is like Free Lunch. Free now but not forever. At the moment there is more bandwidth available than user demand. At some point all the apps and users will overwhelm available bandwidth and we will all be paying on a meter. AT UVI last week so many people were watching the Obama Inaug that the system slowed to dialup and no one could watch. The users overwhelmed the bandwidth capacity of the service!

“nyestreet” – you and John McCain would make a perfect couple!

Jason at Computer Express (not Connections…but his office is in the building) definitely does not mind people using the Wi-Fi. That’s what it is there for-so that people don’t have to pay the exhorbitant price that the owner of Wharfside charges.

If you’re at the Mongoose end of Cruz Bay, drop by the Tap Room (or anywhere near it) for free wi-fi with no password required. Or actually go in to our own “Cheers” for a great brew and a table to put your laptop on!

We, at Island Blues, have FREE Wi-Fi 24/7. The only thing we ASK is that you buy something like a rum drink or some great lunch/dinner while you sit, check your e-mail and enjoy watching our collection of floating boats in our back yard. The only thing we really don’t appreciate are the folks who take all the bandwidth downloading movies (not cool brother) and the other people (like ME) who can’t do our work on-line. Can’t wait for Wi-Max to get going!

Pastory Gardens also has free Wi-Fi with a great view as well.
