Cinnamon Bay Loop Trail
This is the perfect hike for you Type-A personalities. A clearly marked beginning, a measurable halfway point and an end that puts you right back where you started, all in about a half an hour.
We’ll show you around below. (We’re not historians. We just read the signs.)
This is an easy stroll. You’ll see several ruins, a cemetery and some bugs and stuff.

Make sure you don’t go up Cinnamon Bay Trail by mistake. (I know many people who have) If you wind up on Cinnamon Bay trail you’re in for a 45 minute uphill march to Centerline Road. It’s a strenuous, varied, and interesting hike with a wonderful overlook of Cinnamon Bay… but the only ruins you’ll see along the way are the other hikers who have made the same mistake.

I knew what it was before reading the heading. We went to explore last summer. It was really interesting. UNTIL…. we ran into the largest spinder web we have ever seen and the largest spider. No kidding, the size of a lemon. My kids took off and couldn’t wait to find the car. Like I said, it was very interesting, but “monster” spiders…
Sorry to make your skin crawl, but fair warning.

Nice video….I am impressed you guys wore flip-flops on that walk. I guess it is easy! AND I really enjoyd the quick short of one of my favorite beaches as well. Cool “surf” music too! Now I can start my day!!

Sweet! I have always wanted to walk this trail but it’s so hard to leave the beach once you get settled into a perfect spot!
Thanks for the tour ~ Happy Friday Ya’ll~

That was so neat..it’s great that you guys take a true interest in the history of the islands and it’s people…it would be so easy just talk about the beaches, bars and restaurants…thanks for going beyond so we can see what makes St. John so interesting and unique.
I think I would risk “Low-hanging hornets nests” and “spiders as big as lemons” to get to Cinnamon Bay… hopefully I can run faster than a lemon-sized spider….

Ha ha ha ha
Gotta love the historically accurate and detailed commentary we get on OSJ … “Someone built a house here sometime way back when and then actually occupied it for some time …”

My wife and I attempted that trail last Sept. As you islanders will recall, that was very very wet September. Those old plantation ruins have cisterns that fill with rain water. Stagnant cistern water becomes a “Plato’s Retreat” for mossies. Mossies love blood. Humans have blood. Mossies love humans.
As pretty as it was, we gave up shortly after starting when the mossies were finding their way to body parts that didn’t have repellent applied. We went back to the beach and washed our bites in the beautiful water.
Next time, however, we’ll tackle the trails.

I’m back again!
Don’t get me wrong, the trail was very inspirational. To see similar construction as the Annaberg(spelling???)ruins and the sugar mill at Caneel.
Cinnamon is the BEST BEACH on the island! It is well worth driving the switchbacks to get there. My second favorite is Gibney, just a little tricky parking. Well, what a way to end my night, chatting about St. John. Sweet dreams!

Awesome… I thought the above ground tombs were creepy, in a cool sort of way.

Love that trail! It’s short and easy enough we do it every trip. Plus it’s right across the street from our Cinnamon Bay “Villa” (Cottage). It’s fascinating to imagine what life was like back in those early days. Thanks for a great video tour. Brings back fond memories…

I hate to grumble, but the excellent content of your videos makes it doubly frustrating that I can only view them postage stamp sized. In the tv commercials the malignant nerd of a PC user is, of course, inferior to the way cool MAC guy, but all of us deserve the right to view full screen. Have I missed a techie’s advice as to how to do it on a desktop running windows xp and FireFox. The suggestions offered back almost two years ago did not work for me.
