Double the fun

You see a lot of runners (we used to call them joggers but I think that’s not what you call them anymore) in the Great Cruz Bay area. Some of them come from the Westin, making them running vacationers. Complete oxymoron.
Anyway, the Westin, mindful of the running vacationers crowd, provides a nice little map with two runs you can do. The 2.2 mile run leads you on a loop through Great Cruz Bay and back. Not enough of a run? The Westin also lays out a 4.4 mile run. The directions on the card are quite clear, if unimaginative:
“Run the 2.2-mile route twice.”

I like to run 6.6 miles so there’s nothing for me, not real fair.

OMG, Pete and I we were just talking about that “neighborhood” (the route) and how it’s so suburban with walkers/runners. Very funny. Now, it’s official.
How was the “kool kids” boat trip?

And if you turn around and run the second part in the other direction you see things in a different perspective.

Reminds me of the video from here of your trip along GCB Road. I used your ID of “WALKERS” as the landmark to find the dilapidated house we rented last summer.
I did make the offer to the Mrs to go out walking along that same route. we decided to drink beer instead.

A lap around the Westin pool bar and back to my lounge chair is about as strenuous as it gets on my vacation!

Heat. Humidity. Hangover. Running. Pick any three…

What they don’t tell you is that the first 100 yards is straight up hill. I’ve seen plenty of Westiners retching by the dumpster.

Is this where I would find those famous spiders-as-big-as-lemons!?
Now I can watch for joggers on the Villa Serendipity webcam

to get slightly off topic, can you rent a road bike anywhere on St John? This, of course, is a mostly insane idea with the hills and drivers.
Just curious.

If any runners need info feel free to e-mail me from my blog. I also have posted some routes and distances on my blog and will be putting up more running routes in the next few weeks. Running on St. John is amazing if you take it easy and go out early to avoid the heat. The North Shore is challenging but rewards you with world class vistas. We also have a lot of trails to run. Be Well

My favorite run on St John is to run through town (from choc hole or GCB) and around the lind point trail, dunk my head in at Solomon, run around through caneel bay & up maragaret hill trail, then down caneel hill & pop out by mongoose junction. its worth it to take a little break at the top of caneel hill to catch the view off the platform. awesome.
