Thansk again to the Nellis family!
Now that is how we remember our first visit to St. John. Remember the single luggage belt? Remember all the heat when you got off the plane on the tarmack? St. Thomas wasn’t “beautified” it was just simple with no glamour.
Well, the time change
Have a great day!

Family seemed so subdued going home. I sure know what that feels like!! Loved hearing the Michael Jackson song in the background!!

Wow…some real changes at the airport. Thanks for the look back.

Eastern Airlines and no security checks at the airport…those were the good old days….did you see the Christmas tree?
Thank you Nellis Family.

Fascinating… Thanks to the Nellis family & to Russ & Jeff for making this 26 year old document come alive for all of us…

My “Oh God” moments:
No door on the cab…love it
A commercial for Doan’s. Remember those pills? Looked like jelly beans.
Eastern Airlines?
Standing next to the fence at an airport AND videotaping? I’m sure DHS would love that.
Excellent series. Great work to make this all happen!

How delightful and nostalgic. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. How many times have we all experienced those feelings that the Nellis family and you have captured so well.

Very Poignant. Made me weepy behind my Vuarnets
for the free rum samples
before boarding a Prinair flight with some vintage tunes
in the background. I could almost feel my Lacoste shirt
standing up at the nape of my neck for a moment…..

Is that the Jackson 5 playing on the radio? That was way before Michael looked like a freak!

The music makes it sound depressing, but not in a bad way. A way that makes me miss St. John soooo much more!

Not all of us… some of us only go “to come back”!

Too many memories to list, too many changes and sames…Eastern is gone, The QE2 is now retired, etc.
It reminded me of my first visit in 1962. Pan Am brand new 707 to San Juan..two days later a DC-3 (not a DC-4 as seen here) to StT. Also reminds me of learning to swim in clear waters with my Dad and my first mango, given to me by a man on a banana boat at the beach.
It also shows why StJ has always been the special sister. Very nice videos, thanks!

I have a picture of my brother at the STT airport in 1982 or 83 with those clouds hanging above his head. I also don’t think there was a baggage carousel – just guys hauling bags off of the cart into the big waiting area.
