Raked and ready for a new day

Did you know the Beach Bar beachfront in Cruz Bay gets cleaned up and raked every morning?
If you did know this, you are an early riser because Jimmy is out there raking up debris, both man and nature-made, every morning at the crack of 7 a.m.
The Westin has mini-tractors and power rakes for its beach. Cruz Bay has Jimmy. He’s every bit as good as the machines. If you see him, tell him so.

Good going Jimmy.
Have seen Jimmy over the years (at the BB) and didn’t get to know him until last November when we chatted for several minutes during my daily a.m. island walk. He has an interesting history and it’s great to see him in much better shape.

The machines at The Westin may only perform as well as Jimmy…but they can’t match those green shorts..I’m sorry

If I paid for beach front accommodations at the Westin (or anywhere), I’d much rather have Jimmy quietly grooming the beach with his rake than have someone chugging by on a mini tractor and power rake at 7 in the morning!

Great picture. If you want to find another ‘Jimmy’, go to the tourist bureau next to the post office and find David. He was responsible for painting all of the benches, and keeps that area looking so good. David is a true gentleman and a delight.

We saw Jimmy doing his cleanup when we were there last week. I was glad to see him earning his keep a bit, I have to say. Free beers are great, but earning them is even better.
He is always amusing, that is for sure. The only time things were iffy was when he threatened my 12 year old son at the BB last year. My son was a little freaked out, so Jimmy had to change seats. Then all was forgotten and now its a good story.
I can’t find that Facebook page, so I hope I can when I try again later.

The Facebook page refferred to here was not actually created by Jimmy himself, but by someone else on his behalf. Make of that what you will.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Jimmy has Tourette’s Syndrome. That may explain his behaviour at times.
He is a good guy in my book.

wow…sat next to Jimmy at the Beach Bar a few weeks ago during our first visit to STJ. The first time we saw him I was a little concerned and unnerved…as I came to the conclusion that he did have Tourette’s. But the bartenders took care of him as long as he wasn’t pestering customers, so we figured correctly that he was a harmless, nice soul.
