Jason Video: Trunk Bay solves crime problem
Here’s another Jason Video, this one showing the National Park Service’s latest solution to the Trunk Bay food stand’s oldest problem; theft by birds.
Some webbing made of fish line is now stretched over the food court. And employee Dematoya tells Jason it has drastically cut down on bird related food robberies. See for yourself, below!

I’ve seen similar set ups at beach-front restaurants in Florida… Sneaky cheeseburger-stealin’ birds have finally met their match!!!!

They did this at Caneel as well. It works great! The laughing gulls were ruthless during the breakfast buffet..they would swoop down the minute you left your seat.

Glad they finally did this. I’ve been deterred from the food as I’ve seen the brazen birds actually go into the kitchen window here and steal french fries from the plates in there. Now, everyone go enjoy in peace and also enjoy one of their awesome frozen drinks

Jason, Good use of B roll to help tell the story. Since I know these are learning situations, the only suggestion would be a “birds eye view”….yes I know….that’s a lot of work
Enjoyed the video, good job!

I can only hope that with state approved sensitivity training and mandatory tolerance programs, the islanders can be made…ugh…convinced to find respect for their feathered friends who unavoidably share the planet and yes…cheeseburgers with them.
“Islands without borders” should be the norm and the notion of erecting bird barriers is a virulent form of species bias.
Eradicate the hate.
Ps ..If you believe even one word of this …youve had one too many Stripes this morning Mon.
Viva freedom from cultural AND SOCIETAL ENGINEERING.
God Bless America. and Nuts with the french fry stealin birdees.

Birdy Burglars are evil.

Great news! They practically took a french fry out of my mouth on my first visit. They don’t seem to care for painkillers though.

Not only will this protect visitors’ burgers and fries…it should also lower the birds’ cholesterol levels…a win-win situation!!!!

Carniverous island birds beware!

I wonder if the birds will become even more agreessive on the beach now. That would require a REALLY BIG net.

am i the only one picturing a very persistent bird needing a french fry fix and flying with all his might into the fishing line and decapitating himself?

I guess that would be like:
tails you win, heads you lose
Thats my “tweet” for today.
Beaks me ..if you cant take a joke.
I guess Im just ” Talon”-ted
It “chirp” sounds like it…to me
I hope I can be slowly ” winged ” off of this mindset.

In 2005, I saw a gull swoop down into the hands of a 10 year old kid and nab the meat from his burger, here at this stand. It didn’t help that the kid was carrying it like a butler on a plate of 10.000 dollar delicate crystal. The bird was there and gone in about one second… the kid had a look on his face like a ghost just kicked him in the nuts. It was hilarious. I’m skeptical though… I think the birds will work around this.

I’d like to see a bird flying with a cheeseburger. Unless it was my cheeseburger…

These birds need jobs!
