Stoplights!

Look closely at the roundabout. See anything new? That’s right, a stoplight. And not just one stoplight, but MULTIPLE stoplights. At each spoke in the wheel.
They’re temporary, but foreign. (Quick reminder: Red means stop. Green means go. Yellow means gun it.)

What is the world coming to?

Interesting that on Tortola they have ALSO installed Stoplights on one of their roundabouts……The Apocalypse is upon us!!

It’s a snaggle puss of a intersection. Nobody knows who’s turn it is to go. Thank goodness it’s off-season. I think they’ve made a mess out of a perfectly fine 4-way stop intersection.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
now I can never ever say again. “There is one road and no stop lights on St John.” Think of all the gridlock that will come from it!!!!
That’s it ( arms flailing in the air) the island is no longer a virgin.

This whole project came about because a traffic light would not go with the CHARM of St. John. Perhaps like your recent post about Grand Bay…. alittle landscaping will soften the edges.

WOW! I am sure glad that I won’t be on st john until next summer. By then, I hope they have at least a majority of the roundabout completed. It looks like it is worse than when it was at the Texaco station.
Progress and technology! Somethings are meant to be left alone. I believe this is one of those situations!
Happy Friday!

OMG!!! is it a trial balloon? …will i even recognize this corner when i get back to St John? Do people run them at night like they do on PR?
Traffic lights are a red flag to anywhere with out them that the simple life is over. Please make sure they are removed and officially transported back to St Thomas when the work is done on this new 5 spoke corner…

Sure makes that corner colorful

Will move back…. eventually. I can’t wait to navigate that gorgeous traffic circle. And I despise captcha’s.

Actually, I would expect it to be no different than the stop signs they had there. No body paid any attention to those either.

This stop light is permanant?
Hmmmmmm, not sure about this idea. A stop light in Cruz Bay

If the stoplights are viewed anything like the word “temporary” in this post, no one will pay any attention to them anyway.

I spy a photo radar / red light camera for snapping photos of your plate…..

Um…the post says that the roundabout stoplights are temporary. And this is not the first time stoplights have been used during construction on St. John. I have a photo of a stoplight in action on the North Shore Road from 2006. They were repaving part of the road and there was only one usable lane.

If you read Jeff’s post – it’s T-E-M-P-O-R-A-R-Y. Breathe people, breathe…
There was a temp stoplight last summer on the road from Maho up to Centerline. We were driving on the one way part and then turned right to continue around that triangle….and suddenly there in the middle of nowhere was one of these lights. It was near a bend in the road and likely useful during whatever work they were doing, but it was still cycling through the colors and no one was there. We weren’t quite sure if we should ignore it or what. Or would we get hit head on by someone travleing to Francis/Leinster/Annaberg. Whatever we decided – we survived. It was such an unusual sight.

whew! okay, I can breathe, thanks!

I had to go through there this morning. Too organized it was better and more fun when there was chaos.

OK… let’s see if I have this correct. We’ll put in a roundabout for better traffic flow…AND NOW we’ll put in traffic lights on that roundabout… ARRRGGGHHH (and not a pirate kind of arrrrgggh)
