On-StJohn.com TV: Meet Lem Callwood

St. John’s Lem Callwood is one of the island’s busiest steel drum musicians. He’s a regular at Caneel and the Westin, he does private bookings… and you can catch him at the Banana Deck on Thursday nights.

What does a bowling ball have to do with a steel drum? Learn a little about steel drums, and meet Lem, below!

Great piece and what a good musician. Pan music reflects the feel of the island and Len is clearly the master of his instrument.

    Matilda!…
Steel drums are absolutely the best! And Lem is fantastic!
How about a segment on the Love City Pan Dragons? Some great kids who can play steel and a StJ tradition.

Very nicely done, especially the end. We are tropical hot in NJ but NOTHING beats the visions and sounds of St.John, thank you for bringing them once again. Have a wonderful weekend.

I love steel drum music. There is nothing else quite like it to put you in a Caribbean frame of mind. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Thank you for this little taste.

It’s like laying back during a heavy thunderstiorm and listening to the raindrops – relaxing. Beautiful music. I wish they would teach the steel drum in the states as a musical instrument.

Thanks for the few minutes to reflect.

I think you just found the perfect person to compose the OSJ theme song!!!!

Excellent segment especially at the end seeing the clear- rolling water with the pan music…perfect marriage of the visual with the music….job well done…why not take the rest of the day off…you two earned it!!

I had never thought about how the steel drum instruments are made before and I enjoyed hearing about it. We learn about a lot of cool stuff here.
    Great job, as always. Thanks.

I have one request for Jeff and Russ. Perhaps every once and a while you guys could simply post a montage of beach and water clips backed by steel drum music. No talking no expalination … just a little something to take the edge off.

Just listened to Lem… as I sit here at my desk (here in Pensacola, Florida) trying to work. Something about that music just makes you SMILE and chair-dance!! I unplugged my earphones and my office buddies looked up and GRINNED! Thanks for this video!

We are coming to St John for a wedding on May 27th. Does Mr. Callwood play private parties? We would like to talk to him about playing on Saturday night.

    Thank you
