Annie’s Animals: Meet “Christmas”
Coral Bay artist Annie Caswell just got a video camera. And she loves animals!
In the first installment of our new feature, Annie’s Animals, Annie introduces us to Christmas, a baby donkey in Coral Bay (that was actually born closer to Thanksgiving.)
The fuzzy little guy is one of two newborn donkeys that has been hanging out in Coral Bay, and Annie says they’ve been the buzz of town.
“If you’ve never touched a newborn donkey, there is nothing softer,” says Annie. “Christmas hangs out with mom mostly, but you do see dad around town too.”
Meet Christmas, and mom, in the debut of Annie’s Animals…below!

Bravo! Encore! We want more! Love the music.

They’re cute, but let’s not forget, wild animals are just that. Many of the donkeys are not all that friendly and may bite. Sometimes it’s best to enjoy looking at the wild animals from a safe distance depending on the species more than to treat them as community pets. Sorry to sound like a kill joy on this.
p.s. For the future, the opening slide says “Coal” Bay Artist.

LOVE Annie’s art! I was in Coral Bay for 10 days in December and saw one of the brand new donkey foals the day it was born – still slightly damp and cute as the dickens. Thanks Annie for the new feature….

It is always a treat to see the donkeys on St. John! The baby is so cute, good to see the next generation enjoying the island.

Annie! Excellent video! What’s the next animal in your series? …I wish St John had aardvarks

Are these the same donkeys featured in the recent “St. John Vistas: The East End overlook” video (brought to you by The Jolly Dog Trading Company, three locations in Coral Bay)? I’m with Carib Mark, these wild animals need to be given their space or you just might end up in the blue medical clinic with a nasty bite or kick..

Well that put a big smile on my face first thing Monday morning! I am so looking forward to more of “Annie’s Animals”. Well done.

Awwwwww, too cute.

Christmas is another reason to always keep it slow when driving on St. John. As small as the island is, all that driving fast does is let you catch up with the car/truck ahead, or miss that curve, or crash into some poor creature. Donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens, and PEOPLE are in danger when you speed. Drivers of big trucks and buses, please also (and especially) take note!

Cute stuff, I agree but hell, Donkey Schmonkey…I just am pleased that I can voice my opinions on the same comments page as a world reknowned author!

PS: I agree with Mr. Hickam.

Feeding them is cheating!

I hope she doesn’t feed fish as well to get them on camera.

Just too cute…thanks for sharing!

Donkeys come to our house all the time, we have rescued them, studied them, photographed them, and scolded them. Living here, daily contact, we feel they are our friends.

This is absolutely hysterical! Annie’s a riot and you’ve done a GREAT job with her animal footage! I can’t wait to see more, keep ‘em coming! CC
