St. John Vistas: Annaberg School ruins
Like the Annaberg Plantation, the Annaberg Country School ruins are on the North Shore, and the site is incredibly well preserved.
The school opened in 1856.
It didn’t last long. According to the St. John Historical Society, the school was closed five years later after the schoolmaster was dismissed on grounds of “gross immorality.” Whoa.
Check out the Annaberg School ruins, below.

I love it! I can’t believe all the history still remaining on the island after all these years. It is like going to a “Please Touch” museum.
I think we need to go on a field trip!
Happy Wednesday!

I wonder how many students there were…what was the population of STJ in 1856?
Nice video, as always. Thank you!

Looks like even way back in 1861 there was never a dull moment on St. John…

Hey Jeff,
Glad we showed you a very cool new place. This is my favorite spot on the North Shore tour found on the St John Treasure Map. Wait till you take the Coral Bay South Side tour… hidden treasures all over this island!

Excellent video!! Thanks so much for sharing, really brought me back to when I was there in 2005. There looks to be a little improvement, although I don’t quite remember some of the details you were showing like the fireplace. But, I have always loved those stairs and the curved side walla.
Thanks again!
