“Spyglass” replaces The Balcony

It didn’t take long for a new restaurant to move into the former The Balcony space at Wharfside Village.
The new restaurant is called Spyglass (“dining with a view”), and it may open as early as this week.
We hear the new owners also operate restaurants at the Yacht Haven Grande on St. Thomas, including the popular W!kked restaurant.
They’re making a few changes, like relocating the orientation of the bar, but one thing they can’t change is that beautiful view.

This is a definite stop! The last seat by the railing is a good place to sit while sampling their Painkiller. I’ll be on island from May 3rd – May 9th and my goal is to find the bar with the best drink. It’s a tough job, but I’m willing to take on the challenge! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. And please join me if you can…second opinions are welcomed! Till then, stay safe. Nancie

Wow! It didn’t take long. Well, best of luck. When you are on vacation, you like a little variety. Could this be a new hot spot?
Happy Tuesday!

Nancie, without question Tyler’s dinks at the Gecko Gazebo / Sun Dog Cafe in Mongoose Junction. He’s also very funny. He works there on Saturdays and Sundays. Have fun and maybe I’ll see you there.

If the dining experience is anything like the view, Spyglass should do very well.

Any idea what type of menu offerings they will have?
We loved the location of the bar before, why change that?

NICE!!!!

It’s kind of too bad that they moved the bar away from the waterside rail. We really liked that view at sunset.

Good morning from NJ. Nancie my recommendations are “De lime in de coconut” drink at the Beach Bar and the “Drive left, Drink Right” at the Tourist Trap, Yum Oh! Heres hoping the Spyglass does well and the food equals the view. You cannot survive on the view alone.

Nancie,
I agree with J. Lowe that a ‘drive left, drink right’ at tourist trap is a must.
Also a ‘guavarita’ at Shipwreck.
In cruz bay I like anything Tyler makes at Gecko, anything Boo makes at Beach Bar, anything Kenny makes at Quiet Mon.
I have been told that Cactus blue has a really good margarita. I love the mojito’s at La Tapa and Rhumblines.

If they try to open a place like W!kked, it looks like they will be competing with Cactus on the Blue. I am not a huge fan of Mexican food so I hope they go for something different!

Hey mon’ Just home from 2 wonderful STJ weeks! Go see Brian at Morgan’s, he makes an awesome Mojito! Also Kim at High Tide makes any drink
strong and delicious..and of course the ole
mainstays..Quiet Mon, Mooies, Ship Wreck..
and try this: buy aged dark Cruzan Rum, Cruzan Pineapple and mix with Guava juice..and you can freeze it and it stays slushy and cold at the beach! Have fun everyone..I miss it already!

I am happy to see someone open a restaurant in this spot. The Balcony was a favorite of ours for a leisurely lunch with a beautiful view. We always had excellent seafood there. I hope the new place does well and has an interesting menu.

Went to both Wikked and Spyglass and enjoyed both! Food was delicious! Spyglass had the best Bushwacker I’d had all week! Hope they’re both still open when I visit again.
