Whale spotting in Chocolate Hole
Very lucky people spot whales this time of year. Jim Murphy at Villa Serendipity was one of the lucky ones this week, spotting a whale just outside of Chocolate Hole.
“The whale came up and breached, but by the time I got my camera and turned it on, the breaching was over,” Jim says. “I’ll be up with my coffee early every morning the rest of this week, with my camera ready.”

What an experience! I bet he will be sleeping with the camera in hand. Wouldn’t want to miss it again.
Happy Thursday!

I’ll be watching too from Chocolate Holes Web Cam. And we thought we had seen it all when we got to see dolphins in St. John…

We’re going on a whale watch sail with EAST this Saturday. Let’s hope we are as lucky. FYI: This whale in Chocolate Hole was all the talk in town.

How incredibly cool! I have seen them on a WW trip in Provincetown, MA before and they were amazing! I am not too sure how I would feel if I were snorkeling. Yikes! I had seen the post of the Orca that went through but it sounds like that is not common. Does anyone know what type of whale migrate through this area?

When does the “whale season” end? I’d love to see one when we are in STJ this Spring.

So maybe my husband did see a whale in the Windward Passage last March… I doubted him.

How cool! Is there a whale “season”? Mating? I recall last week Capt John said something about whale watching.

Ok..that’s crazy, but very cool! I would lose my mind if I saw that while snorkeling or swimming. I thought I only needed to worry about stingrays and barracuda.
