Gifft Hill gutters

Your tax dollars, hard at work.
The South Shore Road’s rehabilitation under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes new shoulder drainage along Gifft Hill Road.
Repair work to Route 104 was announced in September, but did not immediately begin. The nine month long, $4 million project will include repaving 2.8 miles.
The South Shore Road project was the first federal stimulus project announced in the Virgin Islands.

That is wonderful!!! I have to tell you, when I drove on the island for the first time, I was glad to see the storm gutters. I knew that I had a foot between my car and a big stone boulder sticking out of the side of the road.
The gutters are an ideal way to spend the stimulus money. The islands does need help with the drainage – expecially when it downpours.
Happy Thursday!

That’s great but I’ve got an idea. Instead of putting the time and money into gutters how about guardrails on Centerline going in to Coral Bay where so many people have gone over recently? I think that’s a little more important than drainage.

This is a great improvement. Let’s all thank, Barack for this long overdue improvement. Additional guardrails are also needed. Maybe they’ll get some more money for this safety improvement as well.

I can already see a good fund raiser in the making here. An annual St. John street luge championship!!! Those new gutters will provide for some awesome speed!

I live on Gifft Hill and certainly appreciate neighborhood improvements but honestly I would rather see the money used to redo the sidewalks and drainage right in Cruz Bay. How nice would it be to see stone sidewalks in front of Uncle Joe’s and all down by the Ferry Docks!
