Shannon’s first impression
Remember Shannon, the St. John fan who’d never been?
Now she’s been and she loved it.
Shannon and two friends only had a few hours to explore before they had to return to their cruise ship. But they did all the right things. Lunch at Woody’s. A swim and some sun at Trunk. And of course at stop a St. John Spice to say Hi.
“It is wonderful here. Everything I expected,” says Shannon. “I am definitely going to live here someday and yes, I’ll be back as soon as possible. I’m already planning my next trip!”

Yeah for Shannon! I have been home a week from my first visit to STJ and cannot get back soon enough.

I’m sure Shannon will be back for a longer stay soon. STJ is like a drug. Hiking, Skinny Legs, The Beach Bar, and remote beaches need to be explored in an island time fashion. Cheers!

Round trip ticket…FREE,thanks to cousin Karen and her FF miles.
One week’s accommodation…affordable, thanks to Phyllis at Hillcrest Guest House and to my very generous son.
Finally reclaiming my island soul…priceless!
Shannon, it will be 5 years almost to the day before I get back to STJ, but I thought of the island constantly, took on side jobs to get extra money only to see that extra money go to new roof on the house, car repairs and a dozen other things. But I never gave up and in 36 days I will be back where I belong! May your distance between visits be a lot shorter. Enjoy!

I had that smile on my face the first time we were on St. John! And for the next 22 years. Now I have a sad face for the past two years – unable to visit. Never say never! I’ll be back next year. On-St. John keeps me in touch with the islands every morning.

Shannon, I’m glad you enjoyed our island and were able to make it over from your ship. It truly is beautiful here but the very best part is the people. We look forward to having you join us someday.

I have finally been able to catch up on my On-StJohn! Thanks Ruth for taking and sending Jeff the pic and update!
The first place I went after stepping off the ferry was St. John Spice and it smelled so good I wanted to live there – in the store. It was wonderful meeting Ruth, she was very nice and helped me feel right at home. My friends and I did plan to have lunch at Woody’s but they were closed, so we headed over to Mongoose Junction and to the Sun Dog Cafe at Ruth’s suggestion and loved it. The Mahi Mahi sandwich was delicious! Then spent the afternoon at Trunk and Cinnamon. The sad part was of course getting back on the ferry, especially when the last day of the STJ Blues Festival was gearing up at the Beach Bar as we left. Quick and dirty is definitely not the best way to experience St. John, but if it’s all you’ve got – it’s still worth it! I visited seven islands on my first trip to the Caribbean (if you count the taxi ride across STT to the ferry) and STJ was still my favorite on all counts.
Nancie, it was just those kinds of things which delayed my first trip until 3 years after my first desire to go so I can definitely sympathize! That’s wonderful that you will be making it back! Here’s to us both making it back sooner after these trips.
