This is Waterfront Bistro manager Brian Holt, displaying a Vince Neil (Motley Crue) autograph edition guitar, one of lots of cool auction and raffle stuff that is part of a benefit for Brian on July 3. Brian was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer and is currently undergoing treatment, so his friends are hosting “The Grand Ball” (intentional play on words) at the Bistro to help with his medical bills.
There will also be an autographed Kenny Chesney guitar.
Brian’s prognosis is excellent and he is holding up well, despite the chemotherapy.
“I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen for awhile and he said ‘You look great. Are you training for something?’” says Brian. “I said yes. I’m training for life!”
The Grand Ball is at the Bistro July 3 starting at 9 p.m., but if you can’t make it, check out the silent auction and get raffle tickets online, here!
Festival 2010 is in full and blaring swing in Cruz Bay. For those looking forward to the parade, remember…The July 4th parade is July 5th. That makes sense, right?
…of St. John. This plate, spotted by On-StJohn.com reader Philip at Waxpool Road and Route 28 in Ashburn, Va., and it needs no explanation.
Philip and his wife Barbara got married at Caneel last November and are repeat visitors to St. John. Their first trip together was in 2002…and they’re planning their next one in January.
On-StJohn.com reader Doug Miller is an avid collector of old St. John postcards and photos.
These he doesn’t own, but he did find them. They’re part of a collection at the Library of Congress. Old photos of the Cruz Bay dock, circa 1941. Very cool. Thanks for sharing Doug.
As spotted at a vacation villa recently, a very thoughtful villa owner shows us why you save the instructions.
Renters don’t know where the sugar is that first night at the house, let alone how to use the complicated audio/video set ups in their villa.
Here’s an owner who not only saved the directions for the satellite TV remote, he makes sure they are laid out on the coffee table with the remote right on top of it before guests arrive. Helpful!
At least two underwater Webcams are being installed on St. John, the first of which, at Great Lameshur, should go online this week.
Teens4Oceans, a nonprofit group that includes kids from Kent Denver School in Colorado, spent the last week or so working with the folks at the Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station (VIERS) to install the camera at the end of the VIERS dock.
It’s the third underwater camera for Teens4Oceans, which installed others in the Florida Keys and Everglades. They also plan to install one at Trunk Bay, and maybe even Hurricane Hole later.
How does a gecko get from Centerline Road to Cruz Bay? Hop a ride of course.
Captain John Brandi ignored distracted driver laws to get us this video of his commuter buddies. We don’t know what’s funnier. The geckos or the commentary.
We’ve heard of this happening before – a chicken lays an egg in your car – but never twice to the same people.
“Two times, two days apart, we parked at our favorite spot at Maho and when returning to our Jeep, we found an egg on the floor mat,” says On-StJohn.com readers Bob and Jean from New Hampshire. “We’ve been vacationing on St. John since 1967 and have seen all kinds of strange things, but this is a first.”
