Donna’s Suzuki

This is Shipwreck Landing bartender Donna, with her island ride. Donna shares it with her sister Nancy, who makes Valley Doll hot sauce (which you can also find at Shipwreck).
“It may not look like it, but it runs better than any car I’ve ever had,” Donna says. “But it does have some quirks, like the stick I have to put in the carburetor to keep it running after every time I start it.”
Donna, who has been on St. John for 25 years, says she’s not sure where the seats came from (looks like an amusement park ride to us) but she says the driver’s side cushion belongs to her couch at home.
She takes the cushion in with her every night.

Island ingenuity at it’s best! I’m just trying to imagine taking the Suzuki in for its annual inspection in the northeast….particularly with the bumper tied on. Love the seats.

Why are we snickering at a vehicle that is clearly an unsafe road hazard and could well cause a serious accident with loss of life and property? I think both Donna and Nancy could act a little more responsibly. I am keeping an eye out for them! Thank you.

A bad choke pulloff could be the reason you need to put a stick in the carburetor. It is that round deviice near your ring finger in the picture. It is attached to the carb linkage & it will pull open the choke when you start your car.

Donna-
I’m right there with you! My first car a 1975??? Duster had the same problem. After work every night I had to get the extra long screwdriver and carburetor cleaner to start my car. It was transportation! My interior, I’m lost for words, was updated with seatcovers. P.S. It did have to pass an annual inspection – I know Donna, I don’t believe your would. Happy Wednesday!

Charles, the roads themselves are the hazards on our beloved STJ, and no one fusses about them! And we even love them, so why not this little old-island jalopie?

STJ cars have to pass a yearly inspection.
Seatbelts, horn, lights, basic stuff really but an inspection none the less.
At least it has doors…not required on STJ

Cheers!

Hey, watch it. Donna’s one of my favorite people on the island. There’s other places where that stick could go.

Way cool ride there Donna! The seats are very practical…neither rain nor salt nor Thrasher poop will hurt them. Just rinse clean.

Those seat are an aftermarket race seat that can be purchased in any race catalog. You can buy covers of many different colors for about $40 bucks a seat. See you in September! -Curtis
